Sometime later, the boy told his mother there was a ghost in his
room, but this time it was really scary and not friendly. The mother
and the boy went to his bedroom to find it a mess. She explained
to her son that the ghost was scary because the room was not

Strategy to Get the Meaning Across 2
As you develop your story, you may need to introduce a sign the class
has not yet learned. This second strategy helps you do this effectively:
Introduce a “key” sign
If a sign is “critical” to understanding the
point of the story, it is best to introduce the
sign before you go on. Follow these steps:
• State the new sign
• Explain its meaning (with raised brows)
• Then restate the new sign

“Ghost in My Room”
Comment on the following:
• whether the signs were signed correctly and clearly
• whether parts of the story needed further elaboration
or clarity
• whether the students looked at everyone in the
group while telling the story
