Health Science Academy: Rising 9th and 10th grade students can apply to participate in the academy. This includes 10th grade students who are currently enrolled at Hawthorne. By 2016, the health science academy will be fully implemented magnet school. What is Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences? Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences is designed to immerse high school students in a health science career oriented curriculum involving a handson learning environment and technical expertise. Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will include a career structure, high school online courses, college dual enrollment coursework, and an accelerated curriculum for advancement in science, technology and mathematics. Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will have a strong student support process to ensure that its graduates are college and/or career ready. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) : the leading provider of rigorous and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs used in middle and high schools across the U.S. Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) : local community college where students will be able to attend classes to create environments that generate positive, nurturing and learning-focused experiences in the classroom.
