Partnership with NRCCTE
Focuses on curriculum integration to improve
mathematical understanding
Recognizes CTE teachers are teachers of Math in
CTE and not math teachers

How does it work?
 Pairs
CTE instructors with Math instructors
 Starts with the CTE curriculum
 Identifies math that naturally occurs within CTE
curriculum
 Math instructor assists CTE instructor in
broadening math concepts from specific tasks to
general math essentials.

Family Consumer Sciences is the focus area
during the 2012-13 school year.
Instructor teams will develop and implement a
minimum of 10 enhanced Math lessons by the
end of the year

conference along with shorter, local follow-up conferences held regionally
at each university site
Cross-Content Literacy Institutes:

Nine-day workshop during the winter semester geared toward improving
students’ informational reading and technical/argumentative writing
habits in various content areas as required by the CCSS

intentionally support their content as they assist

How does it work?
 Two year, on-site, comprehensive training
 Year one: focus is Reading Year two: focus is Writing
 Work with both comprehensive high schools and their
CTE centers
 Given modeled strategies of Before, During, and After
reading/writing strategies
 Application of each strategy is to be connected to each
content and CTE area

Collaboration is done with participants sharing
how they have used specific literacy support
strategies
Next year, coaching will follow training with MRI
trainer providing feedback to participants

In 2011-2012, focused on 4 high schools and 4
CTE centers reaching 156 teachers
In 2012-2013 will focus on 6 high schools and 6
centers reaching up to 225 teachers
Future plans…expand to more CTE centers and
