AUTISM CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE (ACE) • Vision Henrico County Public Schools will be the PREMIER school division in the United States for the comprehensive delivery of services for students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). • Mission Henrico County Public Schools, an innovative leader in educational excellence, will actively engage our students with ASD in diverse learning experiences that inspire and empower them to become contributing citizens. ACE GOALS 2011-2014 1. HCPS will have effective transitional procedures to support all students with ASD from the time of identification through exit from Exceptional Educational services. 2. All general education, special education and administrative staff will possess knowledge to apply research-based strategies to manage and support positive behavioral support plans for students with ASD. 3. All students with ASD will be offered social skills instruction. 4. VA three-level model classroom will be developed and implemented at Virginia Randolph School. The tree levels include the following: • Intake and Behavior Assessment • Skill development • Generalization and Inclusion GOAL 1: EFFECTIVE TRANSITIONAL PROCEDURES • A transition criteria will be used at transition meetings at transition IEP meetings from Part C to preschool, preschool to elementary school, elementary to middle, middle to high, and high to post-secondary activities • Policies are set to ensure the fidelity of the application of the criteria worksheet by case managers who support students with ASD. GOAL 2: IMPLEMENTATION POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORTS • Behavior leaders/ coaches will be established and will provide positive behavioral support within the buildings in a train the trainer model. • Each school in Henrico will begin to use a county developed school wide positive behavioral support plan (to reflect the needs at each level). GOAL 3: SOCIAL SKILLS INSTRUCTION • Middle School and High School will provide a Personal Development Elective class to provide students with ASD direct social skills instruction. • Developing of a social skills scope and sequence the development of a lending library that would support the developed social skills curriculum • Development of a peer to peer support model with standardized requirements to enhance social interactions within school across levelsl GOAL 4: THREE-LEVEL MODEL CLASSROOM AT VIRGINIA RANDOLPH SCHOOL • A transition criteria will be developed and completed on any child who is recommended by an IEP team to transition to Virginia Randolph (Rhonda Banks Center) to ensure appropriate placement • Develop and implement intake and behavior assessment protocol for students transitioning into Virginia Randolph (Rhonda Banks Center)
