company on very tight purse strings over the years, only
recently finally acquiescing to his daughter’s demands of
ending Far Yukon’s unscrupulous indentured servitude
policy. To offset the decreased profit margin, Elias is now
funding a salvage/transport operation headed by Mercedes
Wingate. While he does love his daughter, they are frequently
on opposite sides of many issues. He views this business of
hers as Ni Nio Ruh Hai, but he still went ahead and financed it
– and added some provisions to the deal that Mercedes didn’t
agree to.

Description: Ace is in his 30’s. He’s a tall, muscular man with
a buzz haircut, broken nose, and a permanent scowl. He
doesn’t talk over-much, and when he does, he grunts or
mumbles. Only his friend King understands what he’s saying
and serves as his translator if Ace has anything important to
contribute (which is mostly never). Ace made it through the
army because his buddy King took care of him. Ace is good at
taking orders, which he obeys with alacrity, no matter who’s
giving them. He is a good bodyguard, but has an unfortunate
tendency to get into fights, because those who don’t know him
mistake his shyness for arrogance. Ace is terrified of women
and will blush up to his ears and go dumb if one speaks at
him. He admires King and looks up to him, and will do
anything King asks of him.

Description: Deke is Zak’s best friend from Osiris. She was
the head of the class and a good athlete, but her favorite
pastime was computer hacking. Blue Sun hired her to work on
one of their many secretive projects, and Deke’s curiosity
quickly got the better of her. Before long, she was hacking into
project files. She quit before she was discovered (unlike Zak),
and started her computer repair business, Foxtech. Deke is
5’8”, athletic, and changes her hairstyle frequently, ranging
from a wild Afro to short and straight. She loves Core World
Team Handball, and had aspirations of turning pro before a
knee injury ending her playing days. She dresses casually
during the day, then to the nines to go to her favorite nightspot,
Off World, for dancing and drinks.

Description: Sam worked for Blue Sun before Deke and Zak
got there. He saw a corporation that made credits hand over
fist, and was determined to find a way to make more than his
entry level salary. He was something of a petty thief and was
pretty good at it. Before long, his day job wasn’t paying nearly
as much as his night job, so he quit Blue Sun. A chance
meeting with Deke and Zak grew into a friendship that
centered around cracking code and making money. They
gave him a bit of a conscience, too, and SamWu became
more selective about who he stole from and started helping
those who needed it. He now works with Deke at Foxtech,
and also frequents Off World. He is tall, athletic, and normally
has a day or two old beard, probably because he doesn’t sleep
much (too many Sun Colas).

remember, and Buzz is almost never without a cigarette, even
though he’s well aware of the health and safety risks. He was
a career military man, working as an airman/mechanic for the
Alliance, and was stationed on Hera. But Buzz quickly came
to find that the folk on the Border planets just wanted to have
the right to leave as they pleased. So when the U-War broke
out, he switched sides, and gave the Independents a master
mechanic. After the war, he continued to work in Hera’s main
shipyard. Among those he taught his trade was none other
than Zak Grizzelle.
