비교급
→ 두 가지 이상의 사물이나 사람을 비교할 때 사용하는 것으로 대부분의
형용사와 부사의 비교급은 다음과 같은 형태로 변화한다.

비교급
→ ‘A가 B보다 더 ~하다’라는 의미로, 비교급의 형용사ㆍ부사 다음에
‘~보다’라는 뜻의 than을 사용한다. 이때, than은 전치사와 접속사의
역할을 모두 할 수 있다.
ex> • My brother is taller than me.
(내 남동생은 나보다 키가 더 크다.)
I run faster than him.
(나는 그보다 더 빨리 달린다.)
• <전치사> I’ m bigger than you.
(나는 너보다 더 크다.)
<접속사> I love you more than you love me.
(나는 네가 나를 사랑하는 것보다 더 많이 너를 사랑한다.)

접속사 because



접속사 because는 ‘~ 때문에, ~한 이유로’의 의미로 이유나 원인을
나타내는 부사절을 이끈다.
「주절 + because + 주어 + 동사 ~.」 또는 「Because + 주어 + 동사
~, 주절.」의 형태로 because 다음에 이유를 나타내는 절이 오고, 주절
에는 그 결과를 나타내는 절이 온다.
because of는 ‘~때문에’라는 의미를 갖는 전치사구로 다음에 명사 또
는 명사구가 이어진다.
ex> • I ate cookies because I was hungry.

(나는 배가 고팠기 때문에 쿠키를 먹었다.)
• She can’t watch the movie because she is busy.
= Because she is busy, she can’t watch the movie.
(그녀는 바쁘기 때문에 그 영화를 볼 수 없다.)

(폭우 때문에 우리는 소풍을 연기했다.)
