Where will ADS-B be Required? Ground Stations & Coverage 2013 Coverage Expansion Current 2013 Tentative CAP ADS-B Plans Begin Installations in FY15 Why not now? Funding: Equipment and installations cost is expected to be $6K to $8K in G1000s, or $15 to $18K for older aircraft because of the need for the large MFD Vendors have indicated that software changes may take place forcing costly updates to current equipment Options are changing and prices are dropping as more choices come to market Tentative CAP ADS-B Plans Initial Focus will be on G1000 equipped aircraft, and others already outfitted with large MFDs Add into procurement contracts if possible Retro-fit existing aircraft Next will be older aircraft expected to be in the fleet for an extended period (Time TBD) Finally, portable ADS-B units will be used to fill gaps for aircraft not expected to remain in the fleet long enough to warrant procurement
