SIGNAL WORDS

Words that indicate a relationship exists
between two events (a cause and an effect)
 as a result
 because

SIGNAL WORD EXAMPLES
As a result of not wearing a jacket while playing
in the cold weather, Robert got sick.
 Steven passed the test because he studied.
 They didn’t clean their rooms; consequently,
they weren’t permitted to go to the park.
 Since Cathy lived on a farm, she had a pony.
 It was raining so the children played inside.


They won because they practiced.

As a result of farmers milking cows, we get dairy products
such as milk, cheese, and ice cream.

Since he was drinking, talking, and reading while driving, he
had an accident and broke his leg.


