Postgraduate course Advanced Immunology UvA Sanquin VU AMSTERDAM 26 January – 6 February 2015 PhD course Advanced Immunology The post graduate course Advanced Immunology is inspired by the interest of the immunological research of the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam, the Free University Amsterdam and Sanquin Blood Supply (formerly known as the Central Laboratory of Blood Transfusion). The course is strictly meant for PhD students working on projects that require substantial knowledge of principles in immunology. The course is NOT allowed for senior scientists, post-docs, technicians, analytical chemists, doctor researcher or other researchers that are not involved in a PhD project. It is advised to attend this course in the first year of the PhD project. The aim of the course is to further extend the knowledge on recent developments in immunology and to contribute to insight in scientific questions and approaches in immunological research. Topics include: molecules (MHC, antigen receptors, co-stimulatory molecules, adhesion molecules), mediators (cytokines, chemokines, hormones) and cells (T and B lymphocytes, antigen-presenting cells, innate cells) involved in immune responses; antigen-processing; regulation of immune responses; effector mechanisms; infectious diseases, cancer, autoimmunity and allergy. Participants of the course should have a good basic knowledge of immunology (Cuby, Janeway, Parham) such as obtained during graduate training. In the morning, lectures will be given on selected topics. In the afternoon, more active participation of the PhD students is asked in discussions on selective immunological items. Number of participants is limited to 60. Period: January 26 – February 6, 2015 (two weeks) Venue: first week: second week: VU University Medical Center De Boelelaan 1117, Amsterdam, the Netherlands Sanquin Plesmanlaan 125, Amsterdam, the Netherlands Registration: You can register online at www.vumc.nl/advancedimmunology Costs: PhD students (strictly for UvA/AMC, Sanquin, VU/VUmc) 275 Euro Others 800 Euro th Cancellation of your registration may only be done in writing at the latest December 19 , 2014. th We will refund the amount due except Euro 35,- administration fee.
