2012-2013
History of the Program
 Ohlone College Connections was developed
between Ohlone College and F.U.S.D. to
provide an opportunity for high school seniors
to begin earning their college credits while
finishing up their graduation requirements.
 The program has had four graduating classes
in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and will have it’s
fifth graduating class this June.
How To Qualify
 Students must be on track to graduate by the
end of their Junior Year without the need of
summer school.
 Students must have passed both ELA and
Math CAHSEE.
 Students need to have a 2.5 or above GPA.
 Students must have an interest in starting their
college experience during their senior year.
The Schedule
 Students will follow a different schedule then at
their high school.
 For the high school portion, students will meet
Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm
with their High School Instructor.
 Students are required to take at least 1 Ohlone
College Course outside of the high school
portion of the day. These classes are chosen
by the student and an Ohlone Counselor.
High School Courses
 Students will take the following courses with their High School
Instructor to meet their High School Graduation Requirements and
to earn some extra elective credits over the school year.
August - December
English 12 A (10 credits)
American Government (10 credits)
You & The Law (10 credits)
January - May
Economics (10 credits)
Literature, Justice, & Society (10 credits)
Humanities 12 (10 credits)
Ohlone College Courses
 Students can enroll in 1-2 Ohlone College
Courses in the Fall and 1-3 Ohlone College
Courses in the Spring that begin after 12:15
pm.
 Student schedules after 12:15 will vary
depending on their Ohlone College Courses.
 Tuition is free for the students.
 Students do need to pay for their college books
and a parking pass.

What will be different?
 Students will no longer be on their high school campus. All high
school courses and Ohlone College courses will be taken here at
Ohlone College.
 Students will follow the Ohlone College schedule. Classes will
begin in August and will end in May.
 Students will need to take on more responsibility in their
academics as they will be treated as a College Student in their
College Courses and will need to stay on top of their assignments
and grades.
 Parents will not have access to contact the Ohlone
Instructors/Professors regarding progress or grades in the Ohlone
courses. However, students can meet with an Ohlone counselor to
get some guidance if they are struggling in a class.
The Benefits
 Students will be able to earn college units while
still in high school.
 Students will not have to pay the $36/unit for
the college courses.
 Students tend to become more responsible
and feel like a “college student”.
 Students will have access to Ohlone services
such as counseling, clubs, etc.
 Students will still be able to complete their
FUSD graduation requirements and graduate
with their home high school class.
Some things to think
about…
 College Connections students are rarely on their high school
campus. They will miss many activities at their high school, but will
be able to join in activities at Ohlone. Students will need to take
the initiative to constantly check the high school website, talk to
friends, and contact their home high school to find out about
events and senior information.
 There will be some occasions that these students can participate
in high school events if it does not conflict with their Ohlone
classes such as Prom, Grad Night, athletic games, etc.
 Students can participate in high school Sports or have a job as
long as the student schedules their Ohlone Classes around games
and practice times. Please check with the coaches about time
commitments so you can be sure to pick Ohlone classes that will
fit in your schedule. Only a couple students have been able to do
this successfully.
How to get started ?
1st: Attend the Information Night with your
parent on Tuesday, April 3rd from 5:00 – 6:30
pm at Ohlone College in Room 2133.
 2nd: Submit an application of interest to your
Counselor by Thursday, April 5. This includes
the online application and the two supporting
forms.
How to get started?
3rd: Take the English and Math Placement
Tests on Tuesday, April 24th from 4:00 pm –
6:15 pm at Ohlone College’s Assessment
Center (Building 7, Room 7205). Alternate
testing date is May 8th from 4:00pm-6:15pm.
 4th: Registration Prep will be Friday May 11th
from 3-5pm in Hyman Hall, rooms HH117 and
HH118. This is a mandatory tutorial to prepare
for registration.
