REWARD
Out of love for our profession
The love for our profession is what motivates us and we are
proud to present our collection. Design on Stock is a Dutch
furniture brand and our designs are built within our own
factories. Therefore, all of our furniture carries the
'Designed in Holland’ seal of quality.
WELCOME
The journey is the reward, according
to an old Chinese proverb. I completely agree. This is the reason that I'm trying
to make the trip as pleasant as possible; a journey that is happy and exciting.
Besides, it is not the richest, the biggest, or the most which matters, but the
quality. For the journey itself is the goal, the reward. An African proverb says: “If you
want to walk fast, walk alone, if you want to walk far, walk together!” There I am
all the way in the back of the line, so I look for people who think and believe the
same.
I hear you thinking, "And what does this have to do with designer furniture?"
Besides traveling, I love business, especially in this industry, which has plenty
of room for new initiatives. The people that design this beautiful furniture are
passionate. The people who build and sell them are passionate and the people
who purchase our products have great passion. I think it's great to be with people
who work hard to be involved - for whom it is about more than just making
money .
We are all social beings who need somewhere to let our creativity out - to be seen
and recognized. Therefore, we at Design on Stock have created a business where
every person involved is able to see the end result of their effort and commitment.
It’s the joy of using our craft to serve one another; we always think about the
long term. We choose the best materials and the best designers. Also, in terms
of furniture, we choose the best build methods. That's the goal. We hope you
choose to include us as part of your journey.

PRECIOUS
A romantic trend with an outdoor feeling, even in the city. The interior
style has a transparent, delicate appearance. Pure and honest
workmanship are as important as air and light, as seen in the frozen
pastel tones in pink, mint green, and light blue.
FROZEN PASTELS, SOFT
FABRICS AND LIGHT WOOD

BUT BOLD LOOK
Soft fabric with rugged materials such as wood and glass. Luxury,
but in a natural hue. With this trend, airiness and not too much
excess. IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS natural light, wood, pastels,

PERSONAL
DYNAMICS
Our new way of life, where in the
same room we work, relax, live and
eat; flexibility and multi-functionality are paramount. An impersonal
decor is outdated. There is so much
you can do; mix and match to your
own feelings as long as it is not a
static interior. The colors of the
past year were free primary, now
they are deeper, more nuanced and
muted.
10
2
GLAMOROUS
This trend shows neutral colors: black and white combined with gray-brown, brass
and metal. Graphic patterns are inspired by the roaring twenties and Coco Chanel.
In materials, we can see the combination of leather with the softness of velvet
and a distinct blend fabric (Chanel Tweed) provides a quirky, stylish and elegant
appearance. IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS fossil wood, lace patterns, gold, velvet,
graphic patterns, quilting and padding.

HOW DO I DO THIS
MYSELF?
Beautiful mood boards and pretty
pictures are in magazines, but how
do you translate these into your
own interior, which is always the big
question.
Mirjam Hafkenscheid: "Small changes
can often make a great effect. It is
important that your interior creates a
personal feeling: combine your own
vintage chair with a pillow and a new
design side table. Create tension in the
interior: rough versus soft. Try putting a
warm, soft wool rug on a concrete floor.
Move, resistance, buy something new,
but always keep that touch of humor.
"Make sure it remains dynamic and has
uniqueness. With the right accessories,
such as side tables, a brass lamp,
special pillows and blankets you may
quickly find the right style. Color is
important. Choose large furniture
such as a sofa in a neutral shade and
finish the combination with colorful
accessories."

MYSTERIOUS
Moody bohemian, dramatic, so this trend
is also described. There are lots of colors
used, but in subdued tones. Rough luxury,
even such striking names. We like to identify with the feelings earlier times call for us;
feelings of beauty, richness and quirkiness.
By applying form and color, influences from
the fifties in the interior, we naturally get
this style. IMPORTANT FEATURES wool,
copper, brown marble, matte thick leather,
tinted glass, and walnut.

INTERVIEW
" It remains so cool
to actually see in real
life what you have
drawn on paper"
The love of Marike Andeweg for bathroom furniture runs deep. Simple
lines and clear shapes are featured in her designs. With these same
principles she designed sofas: Heelz, Aikon, and Aikon Lounge for Design on
Stock; lovely sofas where you can flop down on.
Photography James Stokes | Interview Els Meyer
B
ecause of your technical education, you work
in quite a man's world. Or has that changed in
recent years? "There are indeed many men in
this profession. My colleague, Evelyn, is a woman too and is regularly asked to transfer a caller to our technical service department (haha). There are
also many men in the construction world, which we have
to deal with, yet there are more women in the architect
world. We like to work with both though: with the men, we
share a common interest and with women, we both have a
technical profession.”
How did you get into this profession? “When I was in
pre-university education, a student of the IPO (Industrial
Product Design) was talking about his education; a little
design, a little creative, a little technical. Because it was
a good match with my education so far and, especially,
because the creative aspect appealed to me, I decided to
go for it.”
But it did not go with you? “You're getting educated to
engineer products, more than to design them. You learn
to work out technical details of certain products. For
example, how a coffee maker works. It was not necessarily
the best education for me, but it was definitely a way to get
to where I am now. I do not think you necessarily have to
have perfectly fitting education in order to do what you are
best at.”
What are you good at then? “I love to design basins and
cabinets. People cannot ignore my brand NotOnlyWhite
anymore. And I really do not mean to sound arrogant.
In the high segment, we are quite present in the market.
Sometimes people react surprised; what do you think is
so interesting about basins? Then I always think ‘look at
the product’. In my opinion, the basin in your bathroom is
very decisive for the total look-and-feel of your bathroom.
You stand there every morning and every evening. I like to
create a nice atmosphere.”
Design on Stock Magazine 2014 / 2015 • 17
How long does it take from the first idea until the actual
product? “Now I have sad news for anyone who wants to
be a designer. If you are self-employed, you are only working three to five percent of your time on actual designing.”
you think are the legs that combine best with the sofa. It
remains so cool to actually see in real life what you have
drawn on paper. It gives me a huge kick to finally hold that
tangible physical product in my hands.”
That is not much. “Most of my time is spent on organizing
everything. Therefore, not everyone who is creative will
start their own label. There is so much involved: managing
production, arranging transport, the accounting part,
professionally photographing products, determining the
settings and so on. You really need to have an interest
in all aspects of running a business. But if you design for
third parties - like I do for Design on Stock - you are one
hundred percent focused on the design process. They do
all of the product development there, so I don’t have to
take that part into account when I’m designing for them.
Unbelievably impressive. And great for me that I can invest
in designing full-time.”
How does designing a sofa differ from that of a sink?
“What I do with my sinks is customized but, ultimately, so
is the Aikon Lounge which is also flexible: you can switch
with separate elements and cushions, vary between long
and short, high and low, and create your own setting. Nice
that Design on Stock answers the needs of the customer
by offering this flexibility.”
You're in your own home on your own designed sofa? “At
home - in our old house - we have a Bloq, a great sofa.
But in our new home, we’ll be moving soon, comes Aikon
Lounge; 'my' sofa where you can comfortably flop down
on.”
Was that your initial design for Design on Stock? “It
all started with Heelz, a casual cushion sofa with great
comfort. Just like the second sofa that I could design for
them, the Aikon. The sofas of Design on Stock have very
comfortable seating.”
Are you free in coming up with a design? “Design on
Stock provides a context within which they want you to go.
Then you start sketching and then, finally, delve into what
From the first sketch to
tangible physical unit
18 • Design on Stock Magazine 2014 / 2015
You have your own business, design for others, are working on your new home and are raising two children. Less
a person can already get overwrought. “Sometimes, I do
not know where to find the time to experience everything
to the maximum. I love to be with my family, the time that
the children are small is so short. Time flies. I love my job,
but I also take it very seriously. You should hear how often
the word ‘manage’ is used at our house.”
Maddening? “The company never stops. You work 24 hours
a day. And the children also never leave my mind. Even if
you're not with them, you still always keep that line. I realize that it's just a phase. I'm in my mid-thirties and want
it all and I want it now! Lately, Maarten and I are trying to
make life easier.”
How? “By realizing that we do not have to do everything
ourselves, and outsourcing several things. I also do not
feel annoyed that I don’t do everything myself. Cleaning
the house for example, we can have someone else doing
that. We have a few, fine babysitters. And every Monday

there is a box with healthy and varied products from online
supermarket Hello Fresh ready for us. So for the rest of the
week - on the basis of the recipes - we have delicious, fresh
and healthy food.”
Where do you get your inspiration from? “From home decorating shops, for example. I also get really inspired from
the interior design fair in Milan (Italy), but because of the
abundance I always come home overflooded with ideas,
like a bouncing ball. My tic is that I see a sink in all kinds
of products. Like with my latest model, the Fuse, which is
inspired by a wall light from Modular. I see the lamp, find it
incredibly beautiful, and then it somehow has to become
a basin.”
Shouldn’t you be closing yourself to all those impressions
all the time? “I'm not always open to it. If I have to strain
for a critical deadline, I get really nervous. But by quietness
- on the water or late in the evening - ideas will come up
naturally. And if I can also visualize them, then I know it's
going to be something.”
What is the trend in bathroom furniture? “People are moving away from the minimalistic and want more practical
forms. Shapes can be a bit more rounded but with a designer look. The material should also be easy to maintain.”
Do you ever design anything for yourself? “I designed a
nice desk for Olivia's new bedroom and Maarten built it. I
have also designed the kitchen of our new house. Ideally,
we wanted a custom-built kitchen, but that was too expensive. We have now built it from standard kitchen cabinets,
but at our sole discretion. I had the bathroom designed
for us, which is specialized work. I do design the products,
but designing the lay-out is another expertise. I think it's
great fun to work with Maarten on everything from scratch
and that he’s the one who will build it. That’s a legacy that
he wants to pass on to the kids too: to be able to produce
things with your own hands."
Which design are you most proud of? “The Fuse, a design
that had been lying on the shelf for a year, that I have finalized for my latest collection. It is a kind of organic whole.
A bit floating off the wall. I like that. And it’s extra fun that
the Fuse has been nominated for German Design Award
2015. When I look back at previous collections, I find the
Moss is still special: an iconic design inspired by Chesterfield upholstery. The combination of organic shapes and
padding required my best to get it realized. My best-selling
model is the Base, which is beautiful in its simplicity and
practicality. Designing basins and cabinets is no industry
like fashion with four collections per year. This is a bit more
timeless. And that's exactly what I want for my designs.”

Modern design haakt soms onopvallend,

A | John Goodwin, de toenmalige
hoofdontwerper van Wedgwood,
heeft natuurlijk nooit kunnen
bevroeden dat servies Edme,
dat hij in 1908 ontwierp, ruim
een eeuw later nog zo mateloos
populair zou zijn.
Op verzoek van 1616/Arita, een
van de oudste porseleinmakers
van Japan, ontwierpen Stefan
Scholten en Carole Baijings een
uitgebreid servies. Het resultaat?
Instantklassiekers met een

B | De kenmerkende golvingen in het
glas van de beroemdste vaas ter wereld
zijn gebaseerd op de rokken van Samivrouwen, de bewoners van Lapland. De
Aalto-vaas was Alvar Aalto’s inzending
voor de designwedstrijd die glasfabriek
Kharhula-Iittala in 1936 uitschreef.
mooi geheel.
D
Fuzz voor Design on Stock.
D | De marmeren voet is niet te
tillen en wat is nu helemaal de
functie van een booglamp als je
ook gewoon een hanglamp kunt
nemen? Toch is hij is niet weg te
slaan uit de interieurbladen. Dat
komt natuurlijk omdat Arco, in
1962 ontworpen door Achille en
Piero Castiglioni, zoveel présence
heeft.
Marc Sadler – Fransman van
geboorte, Italiaan in zijn hart
– gelooft ook in het concept
booglamp en ontwierp deze ranke
Twiggy, de hedendaagse versie
van de Arco, vernoemd naar het
legendarisch magere Engelse
fotomodel uit de jaren ’60.

E | Lamp Loft van Jieldé werd

te voorzien. Maar de lamp
was zo mooi dat hij al snel
zijn weg vond naar moderne

F
F | Na het zien van Psycho werd
douchen voor veel mensen een geheel
nieuwe ervaring. Zeker achter een
ondoorzichtig douchegordijn. De drie
minuten durende, bloedstollende
moord groeide uit tot de beroemdste
filmscène ooit. De film wordt
beschouwd als een van de beste werken
van Hitchcock.
Oorspronkelijk is het Forbrydelsen
(Het Misdrijf), maar de makers van de
tv-serie waren waarschijnlijk terecht
bang dat zo’n Deense tongbreker
internationaal moeilijk zou liggen.
En zo werd het The Killing. Een
internationaal succes, zelfs in de
Angelsaksische wereld.
Al bij de introductie in 1986
was de industrieel aandoende
lamp Tolomeo een klassieker.
In 1989 won hij de designprijs
Compasso d’Oro. En ieder
zichzelf respecterend creatief
bedrijf had, en heeft, het
ontwerp van Giancarlo Fassina
en Michele de Lucchi op de
bureaus staan.
G
G | De Santos-Dumont is een van
de grootste klassiekers uit de lijn
van Cartier. De naam komt van
een vriend van Louis Cartier: de
Braziliaanse vliegenier Alberto
Santos-Dumont. Hij vroeg Cartier
in 1904 om zijn wens werkelijkheid
te laten worden: de tijd aflezen op
grote hoogte.
Het ontwerp van het Grosse
Fliegeruhr van het Zwitserse IWC
stamt al uit 1940, maar is nog altijd
van deze tijd. In no time bouwt het
uurwerk de energie op om zeven
dagen te lopen. Na exact 168 uur
staat hij weer stil, waardoor de
precisie de gehele periode gelijk is.

het enige wat Marilyn Monroe ’s nachts
droeg. Het parfum kwam in 1921 op de
markt – het was het eerste dat Coco
Chanel lanceerde – en is sindsdien een
verkoopsucces gebleven. Waarom het
nummer 5 heet? Het was de vijfde geur
die ‘neus’ Ernest Beaux aan Coco liet
ruiken tijdens de laboratoriumsessie.
Samen met Karl Lagerfeld behoort ze
tot de grootste namen die Duitsland
op modegebied heeft voortgebracht:
Jil Sander. En grote modenamen

van Coco Chanel,
hun eigen parfum.

others look at what you do. Design on Stock, therefore,
invited the famous Dutch photographer Vincent van Gurp
into our own factory. This yielded intriguing still lifes.

SPOTLIGHT
Seat
mania
Looking for a chair?
With these five tips, you will find the model that suits you best.
Relaxed or
active?
One is a perching position,
the other is not. Therefore,
always try a chair out.
Indeed, test a few. Models
that are suitable for an active
position include Penta and
Barran. Amra, Atum, Gola,
Yaka and Moka provide a
more relaxed feel.
1
2
Arms?
Seats with arms usually sit
slightly more comfortably;
perfect for people who love
to linger. They look a bit
more substantial, especially,
if the frame is concealed.
And then, there's a practical
aspect: will the chair slide
under the table?
Legs or
wheels?
If chairs are moved
often, wheels are a
must.
3
5
Material selection
The eye also wants something,
but not every material or leather
is just as easy to maintain. Please
feel free to seek advice from our
showroom team.

Fit and
measure
Choose the number
of chairs which will
fit snugly in the gap
between the table's legs.
This will make the sitting
area so enjoyable later.
COLLECTION
Leather or fabric?
On the following pages, you will find an overview of all
available fabrics and leathers in the Design on Stock
Collection. All materials meet high quality standards
and were chosen for the collection based on their suitability for intensive, residential use. The composition
of a material determines the appearance, but also ease
of use. The specifications of the materials say a lot, but
in the end it is a good idea to contact us if you need
assistance making the best choice. Also, in the choice of
leathers, we have paid considerable attention to the appearance of the leather and the degree of serviceability.
For every living situation, there is a great leather option.
Thus, Boca has a finish layer, which resists absorption of
dirt and moisture directly into the leather. Oil and wax is
added to the leathers, Dayton and Bayu, making them
less stain resistant, but adds a nice, natural look and
feel. We are happy to provide detailed advice on what
type of leather is suitable for any situation. Naturally, all
our leathers are environmentally friendly and are made
in Europe to strict standards.

WHO
WHAT
&
HOW
Wondering which designer has
designed the furniture?
On the next pages, you can read more
about their work and the concept
behind their designs.
Heelz
Blosh
"The sofa, Heelz, has especially
given a surprising and timeless
character for me, confident and
at the same time restrained. This
is reflected in the comfortable
cushions, the characteristic 'bite'
and the tension between the
lower back and slender arm. The
leg is what Heelz literally wears: a
slender element which gives it its
sophisticated look. The horizontal
line causes the leg to seamlessly
integrate with the sofa. The poef
makes a great contribution. In
this simple way, you can create
an extra large sofa in which to
lounge, sit or lie down."
“My approach to Blosh was that the past and present
would meet together in a refreshing way. The basis of
the collection is the right combination of fabric color
and texture and the two buttons make the pillow, in my
opinion, complete. Each side has a different color. So
you turn it over, you can create a different atmosphere
very quickly.”
44 • Design on Stock Magazine 2014 / 2015
Aikon
“Design on Stock asked me to design an
archetype sofa, a sofa as a sofa is intended.
For example, a narrow bottom with rich
cushions, wide armrests and a striking
detail of the leg. Due to the relatively long
horizontal line, the sofa makes a generous
gesture and the subtle recoiling form
element in the leg reinforces that feeling.
This makes the Aikon a wonderful sofa. Just
special!”
COLLECTION
MARIKE ANDEWEG
Marike Andeweg (1978) has
a special talent for coming
up with pure, simple forms.
For her own design label, she
created a successful line of
sinks and baths. Her designs
for Design on Stock rely on
their naturalness and flexibility. "Personalizing a product
should also be possible for a
sofa, I think.”
Aikon Lounge
"The Aikon Lounge is a further
development of the Aikon, excellent
because of its comfortable look and
generous backsides which were added
to create a lounge version. This feeling
is reinforced by the wide arm which
extends into the seat back resulting in
a striking, continuous surface. Because
you select back and decorative cushions
in various widths and colors, you can
choose whether you want to sit, lounge
or sleep. In three steps, you create your
own Aikon Lounge: first choose one or
several seating elements, then the back
cushions and finish with the decorative
pillows."
“BY THE SWITCHING SYSTEM, YOU
HAVE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES,
FROM A COMPACT LOUNGE SOFA
TO A SPACIOUS SECTIONAL FOR
THE WHOLE FAMILY"

RODERICK VOS
Roderick Vos (1965) designed
the first sofa of Design on Stock
and that was not the last of it.
His contributions to the collection range from a tray to sofas
of varying sizes. Slide is one example: "For several stools in the
collection I wanted to create the
possibility of a temporary 'side
table.' Slide was the outcome. It
is a smart and universal design."
Bloq + Slide
Bloq XXL
Solo
"Bloq, minimalist design with maximum detail,
to me is truly ‘one of a kind’. Tight on the outer
sphere and very comfortable on the inside. For
poefs, I wanted to create the possibility of a
temporary 'side table'. The Slide design was the
result: a tray that has been folded from a piece
of sheet material and which can be placed over
the poef.”
"My personal challenge was to design
a Bloq lounge sofa derived from the
original yet with a different and distinctive
form. The sleek lines of the basic shapes
combined with the soft cushions makes the
XXL series especially unique."
“Solo needed an understandable,
artistic design; traditional, but also
modern. These contradictions required
much expertise during the development
process. For the comfort of this luxury
armchair, memory foam was added to
the seat. This gives support in the right
places, causing your body to unwind,
completely.”

Blizz + Lunar
"Blizz has been a game with
block shapes in which I've
been looking for the ideal
balance between form, line
and ergonomics. During
the creation of this model, I
forced myself to ‘design' as
little as possible. Blizz needed
to be a sofa, as a child would
draw; sitting in its simplicity.
"IT IS NOT ONLY
THE SHAPE,
BUT ALSO THE
MATERIALS"
Roderick Vos
Wave
T-Tray
"Wave matches its powerful
simplicity smoothly to each
sofa. The upper side of the table
is characterized by its ‘raised
frame'; practical aesthetic
and a nice find. Moreover,
the combination of polished
aluminum leg pairs so nicely
with the oiled wood."
“The T-Tray is made of
100% aluminum. The top
can be slid over the seat
of a sofa, so it takes up
little space, and the cast
aluminum support in the
T-Tray is very stable. Now,
you can be sitting on the
sofa with nothing on the
seat beside you.”
"In many coffee tables, I find
that the blade surface and leg
are two separately designed
forms. Lunar needed to be
a play of flowing lines. The
slender shaped legs give
the table surface an almost
floating appearance."
ALONG WITH CLAIRE VOS TEEUWEN
BimBom
Roderick Vos: “From childhood, the magical
circus world made a huge impression
on me due to the colorful shapes and
attributes.” Claire Vos Teeuwen: “The
graphic patterns that I saw there as a
child, the diamond shapes provided the
inspiration for BimBom. In developing our
ideas, suddenly everything fell into place.
The triangular patterns sort of mirror a
diamond.”

GERARD VAN DEN BERG
Gerard van den Berg (1947) is
one of the biggest names in
the Dutch design world. He
has many successful furniture
pieces to his name; his designs
allow themselves to perform in
both fabric and leather goods
and, therefore, in different
interior design styles. They are
practical too. A typical Gerard
van den Berg discovery is the
flexible back support "that
compliments your body and is
quite comfortable.”
Gola
Limec
Yaka
Djenné
"My starting point for the series,
Gola, Limec and Yaka, was comfort.
I also wanted the furniture to
enclose the user, so that person
feels embraced by the furniture;
like a blouse collar encloses a neck.
The names of the chairs mean
collar in different languages. Gola,
the first design in the series, is an
arm chair with the comfort of a
lounge chair; so nice to linger."
"When creating
Limec, the target
was an easy chair for
long evenings spent
reading. I adjusted
proportions of the
Gola. Thus, the
Limec became
a comfortable
armchair in which
to spend the whole
evening.”
"The third chair that I
designed for this line is
Yaka. I had to envision
what Gola would look like
without arms, without
losing comfort. Yaka has
become slightly narrower,
so that the proportions
of the chair are correct
without losing the
possibility to combine with
Gola."
"This half-brother of the Limec easy chair, which
has a narrower back and is tilted in its entirety
creates the real easy chair feeling. Like most of
my models, Djenné has that ‘lived in' appearance
from the loose fabric. Djenné is a combination
of straight surfaces and flowing lines, with the
stitching detail on the front that extends under the
loose seat cushion. Also, the base closes in smooth
lines nicely. Djenné is named after a town in Mali,
known for its traditional adobe architecture: a
combination of straight and round shapes, as with
this swivel armchair."

"I FEEL THAT A DESIGN
SHOULD BE A WHOLE"
Gerard van den Berg
Atum
Amra
Maua
"The drop of simple lines seem very easy,
but it is the hardest thing there is. When
I saw the tombs and temples of Karnak,
during a trip to Egypt, I thought they
beautifully addressed this a few thousand
years ago. With that in mind, I've designed
Atum (in Egypt the creator and father of
the Pharaohs). The flowing lines of the
chair are decisive: the seams run from the
bottom all the way in the back and arm
rests."
"Amra is as finely cut, but
with the legs in full view.
Also in this model, you have
the lineation, curves and
proportions of the temple
pillars on the back."
"The idea for Maua was a long time in my head: a round,
tight shell with a comfortable, casual form inserted. The
back reminds me of petals; Maua means flower in Swahili.
The chair is a combination of tight-round and casually
loose shapes. The back is round, so you can take all seating
positions. The pillow slides out too. The shape of the base
has a logical continuation of the formal language."

GIJS PAPAVOINE
Gijs Papavoine (1949) studied
Industrial Design in Eindhoven.
His furniture designs are sought
after and in 2011 earned him a
Red Dot Award, pretty much the
Oscars of the design world. For
Design on Stock, he designed
furniture that forms a family.
His handwriting, with many diagonal lines and slim silhouettes,
makes his work very recognizable. "The cutting of convex
and concave lines appeals to
me because surprising shapes
emerge but the ergonomics of
the human body remains the
guiding principle.”
Penta
"During this time, you will
see a lot of modern buildings
with raised surfaces, allowing
other light, or shadow
incursion. This reminded me
of the craft of my father, a
diamond setter. All grinding
leads to more surfaces and
creates a powerful, faceted
shape. This is the look of
dining chair Penta. The name
says it all: five levels. Penta
is the start of a line furniture
- powerful, spicy, faceted where function and comfort
radiates."
50 • Design on Stock Magazine 2014 / 2015
Barran
"Following the trend of
eating at home, high
dining tables or a bar
in the kitchen, I have
designed the stool,
Barran. This newcomer
to the Penta family
has a slender look.
The emphasis is on
ergonomics, because the
essence remains. Finally,
the comfort makes
you want to linger for
awhile."
Moka
"The basic principle
behind the design is the
image of a coffee bag that
is constricted by ropes;
hence the name Moka.
Through the constriction
of the center back, a
tense sphere emerges
on all sides. The result
is a unified, smooth and
curvaceous shape."
Toma
"Armchair Toma is a further
development of chair
Moka. Due to the loose, rich
upholstered seat cushion and
generous dimensions, it has
the more comfortable and
luxurious appearance. Stout
legs give the furniture a bit of
masculinity. I see Toma residing
in a gentlemen's club."
COLLECTION
EDWARD VAN VLIET
Ding
ToiToi
Koyo
"I love the form of the
human head, and the
oval shape is part of
that. I see Ding as a
cushion on the couch,
and support for your
side or under your legs.
The shape is striking
and contemporary
making Ding a very
useful accessory."
"Inspiration for this multifunctional stool I gained
from Atelier Brancusi
in Paris. Constantin
Brancusi, a Romanian
artist who worked with
many elementary forms,
often stacking them
and eliminating all
superfluous elements.
That's what I did with
Toitoi. This stacking I
gladly included in the
name."
"The Koyo, whose form was inspired
by Japanese tea pavilions, is used both
vertically and horizontally. The Koyo can
also function well as part of a ceremony. In
addition to tea or coffee at a chair or sofa,
you can also use it next to your bed (low
or high). You can make it as personal as
you want."
Twist
"With this pillow, you give your sofa a personal
twist and you have endless possibilities. The
specific nature is not only in the shape and
proportions, but also in the finish of the trim.
Twist is a personal selection of my favorite
Kvadrat fabrics; perfect technical fabrics that
exude quality!"
Fuzz
Edward van Vliet (1965) graduated
from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1989 and a year later started his own design firm. Originally,
he was a textile designer and it
shows in his work. What makes
his work unique is that materials
and geometric patterns play a
large role. For Design on Stock
he designs accessories and small
furniture, which requires its own
approach: "They must be multifunctional. And real wannahaves.”
CLAIRE VOS TEEUWEN
"The starting point for the series Fuzz was to optimize the
brightness of the Jacquard weave by the use of contrasting colors.
In the design, a gradient results in a clear graphic pattern. The name
Fuzz refers to the blur effect. The back and front of the wool plaids
have a different color image, which makes them extra surprising. With
three color themes - Pink, Blue and Yellow - they really add something
valuable to the interior. Fashion for furniture I call them."

BimBom
Concept Studio Roderick Vos | Photography Rene van der Hulst | Special thanks to Nederlands Nationaal Circus Herman Renz en in het bijzonder aan Gabor, Tibor en Gery (Trio Bokafi)
"Circus stands for aesthetics and
perfection. Each performance
is a story that tells itself. For our collaboration with Design on Stock the
same applies. Design is only good if
you immediately feel and see that
there is good thinking. Therefore,
designing is practice, practice and
more practice. The BimBom series
is our personal tribute to the circus.
Because working as a designer, like
working in a circus, is not just a job
but a lifestyle."
