Evolution of Mobile Telephone In Nepal
• NTA have issued two GSM mobile licenses, one for
incumbent operator (NT) & other is for Private operator
(SNPL).
• Nepal Telecom has operated its mobile service since
April,1999.
• Nepal Telecom & SNPL has roaming agreement with
different operators of the world.
• International roaming facility involves roaming between
GSM networks, convenience of a single number, a single
billing system.
Regulation of GSM Roaming
• Roaming arrangement is the key success factor
for the growth of the GSM subscribers.
• In Nepal, currently NTA does not regulate the
roaming service of GSM mobile.
• The Regulators of the SAARC region must
ensure that the customers of this region will get
the maximum benefit from the technology.
• Regulators of the region should work together.
• Regulator must ensure affordable roaming rates.
• Roaming charges should be harmonized in the
SAARC region.
