CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
What should be done to the glory of
God?
1 Corinthians 10:31
Therefore, Whether you eat or drink, or
whatever you do, do all to the glory of
God.
1-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Every Christian should make it his first
and supreme purpose to please Jesus
Christ in all that he does. When one
accepts Christ as his Lord and Saviour,
this means that from this time on he is
to live, not to please the world, not to
please himself, but to live each day as
will please Him who he has chosen as
his Lord.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Who should we be living for?
2 Corinthians 5:14-15
For the love of Christ compels us,
because we judge thus: that if One died
for all, then were all died;
2-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
15 and He died for all, that those who live
should live no longer for themselves,
but for Him who died for them and rose
again.
• Being true Christians, we will eat,
drink, dress, talk, sing, and act so as to
please Christ.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
The only way we can please Jesus in all
things is to see to it that we govern
ourselves in all matters according to
the principles He has laid down in the
Guidebook, the Bible, and not
according to the vain customs of the
world.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
How should we dress?
1 Timothy 2:9
In like manner also, that the women
adorn themselves in modest apparel,
with propriety and moderation, not with
braided hair or gold or pearls or costly
clothing,
3-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
We are to adorn ourselves in modest
apparel, and not to adorn ourselves
with gold or pearls as ornaments.
According to the Bible, our dress
should be plain, modest, healthful,
neat, clean, becoming, and appropriate.
3-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
If fashion prescribes any mode of dress
that is unhealthful, immodest, or
extravagant, Christians should refuse to
follow it, but should stand by the
principles laid down in the Bible.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Who made the first clothes?
Genesis 3:7 & 21
Then the eyes of them both were opened,
and they knew that they were naked; and
they sewed fig leaves together and made
themselves coverings.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
21 Also for Adam and his wife the
LORD God made tunics of skin, and
clothed them.
Any mode of dress that does not
properly cover one’s person is
wrong. In harmony with this
principle, Christian women should
dress modestly.
4-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
They should not appear in public with
sleeveless dresses, or dresses that are
too short, or any other form of dress
that does not properly cover the body.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
What about unisex clothes?
Deuteronomy 22:5
“A woman shall not wear anything that
pertains to a man, nor shall a man put
on a woman’s garment, for all who do
so are an abomination to the LORD
your God.
5-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
God has commanded that His people
shall maintain a proper distinction
between the sexes in the matter of
their dress.
6-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
What should be the condition of our
clothes?
Ecclesiastes 9:8
Let your garments be always be
white, And let your head lack no oil.
6-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Our garments are to be neat and
clean, as well as our bodies.
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
The Bible rule laid down in 1 Tim 2:9
makes it plain that God’s people are
not to ornament their clothing as well
as their bodies.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Can dress a be distinguishing
factor?
Judges 8:24
Then Gideon said to them, “I would
like to make a request of you, that
each of you would give me the
earrings from his plunder.” For they
had golden earrings, because they
were Ishmaelites.
7-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
The Ishmaelites were distinguished as
heathen people by the fact that they
wore gold earrings.

What should we do when we accept
Jesus?
Genesis 35:2-5
And Jacob said to his household and
to all that were with him, “Put away
the foreign gods that are among you,
purify yourselves, and change your
garments.

3 “Then let us arise and go up to Bethel;
and I will make an altar there to God,
who answered me in the day of my
distress and has been with me in the
way which I have gone.”

4 So they gave Jacob all the foreign
gods which were in their hands, and
the earrings which were in their ears;
and Jacob hid them under the
terebinth tree which was by
Shechem.

5 And they journeyed, and the terror of
God was upon the cities that were all
around them, and they did not purse the
sons of Jacob.
• When Jacob’s household gave up the
worship of their idols, they also took off
their ornaments.

What does the world look like?
Hosea 2:13
I will punish her For the days of the
Baals to which she burned incense.
She decked herself with her earrings
and jewelry, And went after her lovers;
But Me she forgot.” says the LORD.
9-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
When the Israelites departed from God,
they decked themselves out with
jewelry like the people of the world.
God has instructed that Christians are
not to love the ways of the world, 1
John 2:15-17.

What would God has us do with
Jewelry?
Exodus 33:5-6
For the LORD had said to Moses,
“Say to the children of Israel, `You
are a stiff-necked people.
10-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
I could come up into your midst in one
moment and consume you. Now
therefore, take off your ornaments, that I
may know what to do to you.`”
6 So the children of Israel stripped
themselves of their ornaments by Mount
Horeb.
10-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
God commands His people to take off all
their ornaments, such as earrings, rings,
bracelets, necklaces, etc.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
What happened to the gold when the
Israelites stopped wearing it?
Exodus 35:22
They came, both men and women, as
many as had a willing heart, and
brought earrings, and nose rings, rings
and necklaces, all jewelry of gold, that
is, every man who made an offering of
gold to the LORD.
11-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Later on these golden ornaments were
given to the Lord to be used in building
the sanctuary or tabernacle in the
wilderness. These texts make it plain
that God’s people are to stop wearing
everything of an ornamental nature,
even such things as feathers.

CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Where should our adornments be
worn?
1 Peter 3:3-4
“Do not let your adornment be
merely outward – arranging the hair,
wearing of gold, or putting on fine
apparel –
12-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
4 rather let it be the hidden person of the
heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a
gentle and quiet spirit, which is very
precious in the sight of God.
12-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
God wants us to have the ornament of a
meek and quiet spirit, a pure, kind, noble
Christian character, that will make us truly
attractive, and which we can take with us
into that better eternal City that He has
prepared for us.
12-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
When a tree dies, the leaves drop off,
never to return; so when we really die
with Christ to sin and self is really
crucified with Jesus on the cross,
THEN ALL THESE WORLDLY
ADORNMENTS, SUCH AS RINGS,
EARRINGS, NECKLACES, BEADS,
ROUGHE AND LIPSTICK, WILL DROP
OFF FROM US, NEVER TO RETURN.
12-CD
CHRISTIANS IN DRESS
Let us seek in the matter of our
adornment to show that we love Jesus
Christ best of all. Let us adorn
ourselves in keeping with our
profession as followers of the meek
and lowly Jesus.
