“We need to teach our students how to be
prepared for jobs that don’t yet exist, using
technologies that haven’t been invented in
order to solve problems we don’t even
know are problems yet.”

Case Study
Washington State University
Challenge
To provide a large population of future teachers a way to gain
access to veteran teachers in the field and interact with
primary & secondary students when the local school districts
are already overwhelmed trying to accommodate the
university’s pre-service teachers
Solution
Partner with school districts located more than a day’s drive
from the university, and allow future teachers, veteran
teachers, and primary & secondary pupils to interact via
videoconference, thus increasing the available pool of
teachers and students available for collaboration
Result
The initial research and pilot project results have been
documented in several journals and been nationally
recognized for their innovation.
RESULT: Cyber-Tutoring and Cyber-Mentoring have become
an integral part of WSU’s program

DUKE UNIVERSITY
Challenge
Need to create a highly interactive and engaging environment
in which to deliver world-class educational opportunities to
students in a Cross-Continent MBA Program
Solution
Phase 1: install immersive telepresence global classroom at
main and remote campuses. Phase2: Expand the classroom
to include a “virtual world” environment for continued
collaboration and group work
Result
Duke’s Fuqua School of Business Global Conference and
Teaching System is an immersive collaboration experience
enabling cross-continent MBA classes, employment
interviews, admissions screening and effective distance
learning.
“Immersive Telepresence
participants definitely forget
about the distance that
separates them, they feel like
they’re in the same room.”
Nevin Fouts
Associate Dean for Information Technology
Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business
RESULT: A true to life environment that is just like
being there.

Case Study
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY
Challenge
To link two campuses on two different continents in two
different time zones to create one realistic classroom
experience.
Solution
Having recently opened the School of Foreign Service in
Qatar (SFS-Qatar), the first branch campus of the worldrenowned Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown,
the University implemented Polycom’s RPX system and HDX
9002 systems to better connect these physically distant
campuses. Located in Doha, the capital of the Middle Eastern
emirate of Qatar, Georgetown’s Qatar campus provides a 4year undergraduate degree in international politics to students
from the Middle East and around the world.
“This truly opens the doors
between Washington DC and
Doha. This is at the heart
of what we do as a global
university. It’s exciting how
many possibilities there are for
powerful interactions in the
future.”
Result
A ‘global classroom’ based on an immersive telepresence
experience that facilitates ‘natural’ collaboration between
the classrooms to bring students and teacher closer together
in one, interactive, real-time experience.
James Reardon-Anderson
Dean for School of Foreign Service in Qatar
