What is the BRIDGE Act?
BRIDGE is an acronym for “Building Resourceful Individuals to
Develop Georgia’s Economy”.
Ensures that Georgia’s 6th -12th grade students are aware
of available career and postsecondary education options.
Your school can use the Georgia Career Information System
(GCIS) and Georgia Career Information System Junior (GCIS
Junior) to fulfill the requirements of the BRIDGE Act.

BRIDGE Act Objective
for High School Students
High school students shall be provided
guidance, advisement, and counseling
annually that will enable them to
successfully complete their individual
graduation plans, preparing them for a
seamless transition to postsecondary
study, further training, or employment.

Contact your GCIS
Representative for details.
Be sure to create a GCIS
Portfolio for every student
before completing any
BRIDGE Act activities. This is
how the data is collected
and reported to the Georgia
Department of Education.
This Portfolio can be
transferred to the Board of
Regent or Technical System
of Georgia school to
continue the students’
career development.

Getting Started with GCIS
and the BRIDGE Act
9th Grade: 3 Occupations -- explore and investigate at least
3 occupations and save them in your portfolio.
10th Grade: "College Credit Now" -- learn about the
"College Credit Now" programs.
11th Grade: School to Work Connection -- explore at least
3 postsecondary institutions that match your Individual
Graduation Plan and save them in your portfolio.
12th Grade: Next Step -- identify your next step (e.g.,
college, military, apprenticeship, work).
