Symposium on Geo-engineering for Dykes
Invitation
Wednesday, December 17, 2014
Lectureroom C, Faculty of CiTG, TU Delft
PROGRAMME
Around 1 billion euros per year are required to maintain and upgrade the Dutch
dyke network. Research is urgently needed to improve understanding in dyke
geo-engineering to focus financial resources more effectively in areas of real need.
In particular, there is a need to fill knowledge gaps relating to the 14,000 km of
regional dykes, which are currently maintained and upgraded using rules mainly
derived from research on primary dykes.
On the occasion of the inaugural lecture of Professor Cristina Jommi, Chair of
Dikes and Embankments at TU Delft, we organise this symposium to invite the
national public bodies, companies and colleagues to discuss the priorities and the challenges we are facing to improve the design, maintenance and safety of the
regional water defences in the Netherlands.
The symposium includes time for open questions and answers. English is the preferred language, but Dutch is equally welcome for questions.
