In (Genesis 18:23-33) Abraham bargains with the Lord for the RIGHTEOUS of Sodom … “50” - (vs. 24) Did it have anything to do with LOT? Genesis 19:1-14 “45” - (vs. 28) Lot & Wife (V:15) =2 “40” - (vs. 29) Virgin daughters (V:5) =2 Sons (if any?, it would be “30” - (vs. 30) at least two) (V:12) “20” - (vs. 31) Sons-in-law (at least two plus daughters) (V:14) “10” - (vs. 32) =2 =4 Possibly, a total of = “10” Ever thought about WHY, the number “10”? 6. And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) – II Peter 2:6-8. WHY was Lot in such a predicament? WHY was Lot only able to save “3” of his family when he was a righteous man? WHY did Lot’s children turn out the way they did? WHY did Lot’s son-in-laws not take him very seriously? WHY did Lot lose his wife? Lot was Greedy, Genesis 13:8-11. Lot’s choice showed a degree of GREED. Lot didn’t THINK about … – How it would affect his family. – Kind of environment it would place them in. – Whether or not they, as a family, could serve God acceptably there. – Whether or not he could properly educate his children there. – What other people would think of him there. Today, many Christians are making the same kind of MISTAKES. (See Galatians 6:7-8). Lot was Greedy, Genesis 13:8-11. Lot chose to live in the city of Sodom, Genesis 13:12-13;14:12. The Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are held as examples of WICKEDNESS… – “ the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.” (Genesis 13:13). – “ Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave,” (Genesis 18:20). – “…I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?" And He said, "I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.“ (Genesis 18:32). – Sodom and Gomorrah are examples of God’s wrath upon the ungodly, (II Peter 2:6; Jude 7). Don’t EVER under estimate the influence of evil. (see I Corinthians 5:6; 15:33). Lot was Greedy, Genesis 13:8-11. Lot chose to live in the city of Sodom, Genesis 13:12-13;14:12. Lot failed in raising his children, Genesis 19:14, 16; 30-36. Lot’s choice to go toward Sodom had devastating consequences upon his most precious resource! His family! – Though Lot is described as “…oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked.” II Peter 2:7-8. What of his children? What was their view? – Only “3” of Lot’s family escaped, the rest were LOST in the destruction of Sodom. – Lot had two of his daughters who allured him to committed SIN! If YOU won’t raise them, SOMEBODY will! The devil will be more than glad to help, (See I Peter 5:8; I John 2:15-16). Lot was Greedy, Genesis 13:8-11. Lot chose to live in the city of Sodom, Genesis 13:12-13;14:12. Lot failed in raising his children, Genesis 19:14, 16; 30-36. Lot had an unbelieving Genesis 19:16,26. wife, Her HEART may have always been there. Could it be that part of the reason Lot moved to Sodom was, BECAUSE OF HER. Here is what we KNOW about her… – She loved Sodom more than LOT did. – Jesus used her as an example of consequences, “Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 17:32). – She died in rebellion to God! Marry a BELIEVER, one who will help you in your service to God, (See Proverbs, 31:10; Ephesians 5:28-29)! Lot was Greedy, Genesis 13:8-11. Lot chose to live in the city of Sodom, Genesis 13:12-13;14:12. Lot failed in raising his children, Genesis 19:14, 16; 30-36.
