VAMPIRE TALES. CHAPTER 1
TRAVELLING ABROAD.
There was an aristocrat in London in 1888 called
Lord Ruthven. He was tall and pale, with big
cold eyes. He didn’t speak much and he never
laughed. People were frightened of him, but
they didn’t know why.
“Lord Ruthven is a little
strange”, they said.
“But he fascinates the
ladies, especially the
young ones, so we
always invite him to
our parties”.
That same year, a young man
called Anthony Marks
came to London. Anthony
was rich, handsome and
imaginative. He an his
younger sister, Isabella,
were orphans and Isabella
lived with their aunt and
uncle in the country.
Anthony started going to all the society parties
in London, and Lord Ruthven noticed him.
“Anthony is a sweet, innocent young man”, Lord
Ruthven said. “I want to know him better.
Maybe we can become good friends”.
