To Infinity And Beyond
To Infinity and Beyond
Perpetual motion of disciple-making:
“disciples produce disciples”
Key axioms:
Discipleship is Mission Critical (Mt
28:19)
Personal Discipleship is the Key to
Corporate Discipleship (Mk 8:34)
Corporate Discipleship Hinges on a
Culture of Discipleship (Jn 13:35)
Discipleship Will Only Be Complete
in Reproduction (Jn 15:8)
Why Health?
• “The vast majority of organizations
today have more than enough
intelligence, expertise, and
knowledge to be successful. What
they lack is organizational health.”
• “The single greatest advantage any
company can achieve is
organizational health.”
Why Health? We need:
• Healthy Selves – Leaders, Disciples
• Healthy Systems – Ministries, Programs, Structures
Why Health?
Healthy Leaders

for’miSHən/
noun: the formation of followers of Jesus
Christ into fully devoted disciples to the
Great Commandment and the Great
Commission.
What is formission?
• FORMATION and COMMISSION hybrid - in
order for the Great Commission to be fulfilled
through us we need the Spirit of God to first
FORM the character of Christ in us.
• FOR the MISSION – everything we do must
be for THE mission. It reminds us that the
more we fulfill the Great Commission, the
healthier we will become. The healthier we
become, the faster we will move from a
position of a decline on our organizational
lifecycle to a place of life and growth. We
will then recapture visional energy,
fellowship connectivity and missional and
ministry priorities.
• FOUR phased initiative - FORMISSION also
alludes to the number four and the four
phases of the PAONL’s Discipleship Plan.

redefinition
Why a redefinition of discipleship?
What has defined our spirituality in the
past?
What does spirituality look like in a
Pentecostal context?
alignment

formission
alignment
• Alignment is a word that the Discipleship
Commission used in previous presentations
and it is really a key ingredient of the
FORMISSION plan. What do you mean by
alignment?
• You’re the managing editor of Good Tidings?
What does alignment mean for the GT?
• What other areas do you see alignment
playing out in the days ahead for the PAONL?

Discipleship resources are in big
demand. What is the Commission
doing about providing resources?
What will make this different from just
another discipleship program?
How will this be unique to our context?

VISION
An integrated vision for PAONL
churches and leadership to
experience spiritual, theological
and missional vitality.
formission
JOHN 15:7-8
 John
15:7-8 indicates that as we remain in Him
(spiritual vitality) and His Word remains in us
(theological vitality), we can ask whatever we
wish and it will be done for us .... fruitfulness
(missional vitality) will be evident
formission
SPIRITUAL VITALITY
 To
experience spiritual vitality in an ongoing
manner we envision churches and leaders who:




Know intimacy with God through prayer and
engagement with His Word
Are actively engaged in Spirit empowered, Christhonoring living
Demonstrate the necessity of Spirit-baptism and
the adventure of living “naturally supernatural”
Mentor others in a Spirit-filled life
formission
THEOLOGICAL VITALITY
 To
be a people of theological vitality, we
envision leaders and churches who:




Fulfill our mission to glorify God by making disciples
who love God and others
Engage the Word of God in a living, active way
Know how to interpret the Scripture in a manner
that is sound, both doctrinally and in lifestyle
Who are liberated by the truth of God’s Word and
able to share those truths by example and speech
in the contexts of their daily lives
formission
MISSIONAL VITALITY
 For
ongoing missional vitality, we envision
leaders and churches who:




Personally engage those who do not know
Jesus in substantive relationships
Have local, regional, provincial and
international expressions of mission occurring in
their respective churches and individual lives
Passionately intercede for lost people
Generously give of their lives and resources

Deep and Wide
This discipleship plan is wide in its
focus. How will it be deep as well?
What place will community,
transparency and authenticity need
to take if this is to be successful?
How can we begin to bring wholeness
to our lives and ministries?
formission
JER 17 9 “The human heart is the most deceitful
of all things, and desperately wicked. Who
really knows how bad it is?
a. HEART the total inner being including reason.
b. DECEITFUL Heart: own individual hearts
So deceitful that it can hide the truth from our
conscious awareness (no one know self by
self).
c. DESPERATELY wicked [sick] Heart refers to a
“wounded state.”
*There is sin in us, done by us, done to us and in
the natural world.
formission
MARK 1 15 “The time promised by
God has come at last!” he
announced. “The Kingdom of God is
near! (not just go to heaven or be
moral)
Jesus came to set up a kingdom that
has reconciled and will one day fully
reconcile us to the “garden state”
(unhindered intimacy with God and
others)
formission
Here are the four major religious beliefs about
the kingdom of God and how that was going
to come is about:
1. The Zealots: They wanted a bloody
revolution.
2. Herod and the Chief Priests: They could
never overpower Rome and must accept and
compromise.
3. The Essenes: They set up monasteries and
hid away. God would one day show up and
take over.
4. Pharisees: If we could one day without sin it
would usher in God’s kingdom.

LUKE 13 Cut it down; why does it use up
the ground?’ 8 But he answered and
said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year
also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
9 And if it bears fruit, well. But if not,
after that you can cut it down.’
 Growth in Christ’s kingdom includes
a loving position (grace), honest
relationships (truth) and the time
needed.
formission
LUKE 19 20 ‘Lord, you delivered to me
five talents; look, I have gained five
more talents besides them.’ 24 “Then he
who had received the one talent came
and said…, 25 And I was afraid, and
went and hid your talent in the ground.
Look, there you have what is yours.’
 I must bring my true self into the
present otherwise there are parts of
me stuck in an spiritually immature
state.
formission
James 5:16 Confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you may
be healed.
 If you want forgiveness ask God (through
Christ) if you want to be healed tell
someone else you trust (I get excited
when…)
 A hurt left unattended becomes a hangup, a hang-up not dealt with becomes a
habit. (act of sin).
 Another way to say it is you are only as
sick as your secrets.

ADVENTURE
Discipleship must move from head, to
heart to hands yet at times it moves
from hands to heart to head? How did
you see that happen last year?
What is the formission ADVENTure?
What could happen if churches all
over NL participated?

formission
We dream of the FORMISSION of new believers,
who in turn will produce disciples, creating a
perpetual movement until Christ returns. Once M1
has launched, our commitment and perseverance
to the plan coupled with the breath of God on
these dry bones may, in fact, signal our FORMISSION
- A FORMATION of COMMISSIONED disciples who
will not be content to watch the beginning of our
end, but will be relentless in engaging a fresh
beginning.
