Invocation Lord’s Prayer – Kimberly Boyd Words of Welcome Geoffrey Black Moses -Todd Farley Mime Place your Life Before God Responsive Reading • One: So here is what I want you to do, God helping you, take your everyday ordinary life- your sleeping eating, going to work and walking around life—and place it before God as an offering. • All: Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for God. Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. • Place your Life Before God Responsive Reading • One: Readily recognize what God wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. • All: Do not imitate what is evil but imitate what is good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. Place your Life Before God Responsive Reading • One: For everything created by God is good and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving. • All: It is God who is at work in you enabling you both to will and to work for God’s good pleasure. Gospel Scripture • Matthew 4: 18 -22 As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him. Gospel Scripture • Matthew 9: 35 – 38 • Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’ Music Gideon Lawson Sermon JESUS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING Rev. Marian Plant Associate Professor of Ministry Studies & Schauffler Chair of Christian Education Coordinator, Design for Leadership Defiance College You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore You have come down to the lakeshore Seeking neither the wise nor the wealthy, But only asking for me to follow. O Jesus, you have looked into my eyes, Kindly smiling, you've called out my name. On the sand I've abandoned my small boat; Now with you, I will seak other seas. You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore You know full well my possessions, Neither treasure nor weapons for conquest, Just these my fishnets and will for working. O Jesus, you have looked into my eyes, Kindly smiling, you've called out my name. On the sand I've abandoned my small boat; Now with you, I will seak other seas. You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore You need my hands, my exhaustion, Working love for the rest of the weary, A love that's willing to go on loving. O Jesus, you have looked into my eyes, Kindly smiling, you've called out my name. On the sand I've abandoned my small boat; Now with you, I will seek other seas. You Have Come Down to the Lakeshore You who have fished other waters; You, the longing of souls that are yearning; O loving Friend, you have come to call me. Sweet Lord, you have looked into my eyes, Kindly smiling, you've called out my name. On the sand I've abandoned my small boat; Now with you, I will seak other seas.
