Organizing is an important function that optimizes resources and
arrangement of tasks to improve organizational efficiency in achieving
objectives. However, arrangement of such tasks can significantly alter
the proficiency and workplace culture. Hence, the role of organization
in management holds such significance while different organizational
structures can disrupt the workflow of such organization.
Firstly, organizing improves the workflow by arranging task efficiently.
With the work being laid to be one’s strength, one task takes less time
and effort for that team. Moreover, with the task being arranged in a
smart way, there is less stagnancy in the system; the system becomes
smoother, consuming less resources. Different tasks consume different
amount of resources. Because of that, it is a necessity to arrange
resources as well. When optimized, it is to be made sure that nothing
becomes redundant, as these resources whether man-power, money or
materials can cost time. That’s why certain algorithms are created to
optimized for less resource loss. For example, the online
advertisements are optimized for consumers being more likely to buy
an item.
However, there isn’t only one way to organize resources. For example,
while the traditional hierarchical pyramid offers chains of command
that splits up the authority, the flat structure allows for direct
command and easier conduct with information. It is to be pointed out
that both have benefits and drawbacks. First of all, in a big structure
with thousands of employees, the flat structure doesn’t work to be
direct anymore, as its task allocation process is different to that of the
former structure, that means that the hierarchical structure can provide
solutions through very sophisticated branches. Moreover, the
workplace culture can also be different: in the latter structure,
employees can view their manager as a leader, while in the former one,
employees may not like their manager.
In conclusion, organizing is a crucial management function and differing
organizational structure can influence productivity and workplace
culture. While being the base function of management, organizing
reduces redundancy and improve resource allocation. Different ways to
allocate resources are based on who is in leadership and chain of
command from the higher-ups. That being said, managers should be
flexible on which structure they should use and on how they should
arrange resources.
