Course Description
Welcome to Geometry! This course is highly recommended for students attaining a final grade
of 80 or higher in Algebra 1. This course is based on the PA Core Standards for Geometry and
focuses on building the student’s reasoning and logical thinking skills through the study of
shapes. It provides the student with a basic understanding of the structure of geometry,
deductive reasoning, and the need for precision in the language of mathematics. Math software
will be used to provide individual instruction, extended topics, and remediation. Topics include
the concepts, properties and applications of lines, angles and triangles.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that a school is a safe place for students.
I will always encourage students to make mistakes, this is how we all learn.
Working together is a great way to learn, so most assignments may be completed with
those around you.
Ask questions when you do not understand.
I will be here to help not only this year, but in the years to come.
Materials Needed:
Textbook:
Folder
Pencil
Chromebook
Charger
Calculators will not be issued to
individual students. They are to
remain in 109.

Technology:
Grading Policy:
There will be times that technology will be
used in class. When lessons are going on,
students will be asked to have their
Chromebooks closed and put away. As per
the student handbook, phones are not
allowed in class. Failure to comply with
this policy will result in a referral to the
office.
Students will NOT be issued books
throughout the year and should not leave 109.
If there is an assignment that requires the
book, it will either be posted on Google
Classroom or more time will be given in class
to complete.
There will be tests and quizzes on the
material that was discussed in class. For
all of the work that you will get in class,
you will be getting points for it.
Depending on the length of it, that will
determine how much the assignment is
worth.

Absentee Policy:
When students are absent, they are
responsible for getting all work that
was missed.
This work is to be made up in a timely
manner.
Students can find material missed on
Google Classroom; a daily post will be
made with everything attached.
If a student is absent for a quiz/test,
they must take the quiz/test upon their
return to school. If a student is out for
more than one day, a grace period
equal to the number of days they were
out will be given. Failure to do so will
result in a zero.
Any assignment that is missed and not
turned before the end of the marking
period will result in a zero. If turned in
before the end of the marking period,
student will earn half credit.
Expectations:
Students are expected to come to class
prepared.
All school rules and policies are to be
followed in the classroom.
Treat those around you and the space
you are in with respect.
Phones are to not be used or seen
during the class period.
Tests/ Quiz Corrections:
After a test or quiz, students will have the
opportunity to do test/ quiz corrections for
half of the points back, IF and ONLY IF
they have it correct. We will go over tests
and quizzes as a group. Students must
also analyze their first attempt and give a
brief explaination of what went wrong.
*I don’t know- does NOT count as an
explanation. Points will not be given back
if that is the reason.
Extra Credit:
There will be extra credit that is offered every quarter. It will be discussed further closer
to when it will be given.
The next form of extra credit will be a little different. Every time there is a full moon,
student can email me a Spongebob GIF that is school appropriate for 2 points. It must
be sent to be the day of the full moon, or it does not count. If the full moon occurs on a
weekend, students must email me by the Monday after it occurs.
If there are ever any questions, do not hesitate to reach out.
Let’s have a great year! :)
