It is often assumed that the school environment is not a relaxing and stress- free zone, therefore one
can quite often her about home-schooling a rather new approach of studying which unlike regular
lessons at school takes place at one´s home and is most often supervised by a parent not an actual
teacher. What makes Home- schooling attractive is that it is not determined by the grades given by
an” overly biased” teacher, but the child is not graded at all as the child just learns and at the end of
primary and high school has to write exams to see how well the child has performed and learned
throughout the years.
To insist that one´s social abilities will gradually decrease as he is in a different environment than his
peers is simply intolerable. Depending on one´s approach to socializing and studying can make a child
feel either anxious or confident in society, however, this factor is mostly caused by what we consider
“bad or good” parenting as these traits start developing at an early age. That is when comes in
question whether the shyness and anxiousness is caused by a parenting mistake or just by homeschooling?
Eventhough it is significantly harder to make good friends when being home-schooled it is also not
impossible as one can meet new people when doing a sport, joining a club or even by visiting new
places such as museums or going to concerts, so the chance of finding a potential friend is never zero.
On the other hand, what is really hard to avoid from happening is parental guidance or rather just
parental support. I should take not to overshadow the advantages of having a parent by your side
whenever you need one, but at the same time it is also essential to learn how to become more
independent as you grow up which is much more of a struggle for the home-schooled children. It is
enforced by that fact that they simply just do not have the experiences and inconveniences the
school kids face.
Nonetheless social development differs from child to child and for that reason we cannot make a
general assumption that each and every single home- schooled child will have problems with social
interactions in the near future. As it depends more on the parent than on the actual child. The
perhaps most common personality trait stereotyped to home- schooled kids is laziness. Hence the
not so strict time table or day schedule in general. Yet that is where I believe that the school kids fall
last, because every single one of their days is fairly similar to the other. They get up, get ready for
school and after school they usually go home or head to their sports practise. Whereas the homeschooled kids need to effectively arrange their day, so that they stay productive and get all of their to
dos done.
Considering all this I still stand by the fact the home-schooling isn´t useless or can make children
more anxious that them going to a regular school. Though as once mentioned it is not as easy to
socialize and become more independent as it is for the school kids, it is possible but one just needs to
have a strong will and competent parents to be able to achieve one´s goals.
