First Day Wtiting Reflection
The so-called banking concept by Brazilian educator Paulo Freire is no new phenomenon in
today’s society. The main disadvantage of education is that the system does not focus on
developing individuals who thrive for knowledge, creativity and innovation. Most students
come out of school lacking any sense of creativity because they have not been thaught for it.
This is a result of the educational system that priviledges factual knowledge which means
that the ’omnipotent’ teacher is the subject of the learning proccess who teaches and
disciplines and the students who are the objects of the learning proccess are taught and
comply. As a result, students lose the sense of love for reading and writing because these
experiences stayed with them as rather unpleasant ones.
As for my personal reflections to the educator’s banking concept, I do not consider myself an
exception from it
My first memories of reading was from primary school. A big portion of it was mandatory
readings from ancient history of my country which I even then considered irrelevant to us.
Consequently, I experienced as a kind of suffering because I had no interest in those readings
at all.
As for my writing experiences, they were rather pleasant experiences. In my class, I had to do
a lot of argumentative essays which I had more interested in because while it was still
something I was obligated to do, I did not have to listen to ideas from a few hundred time,
but instead I was able to express my own ideas.
Overall, though my previous experiences may have discouraged me to read and write I am
glad I realiused it and I can word towards improving it.
