Subject: Request to Remain Enrolled in EN 2510-51
Dear Mr. Pace,
My name is Michael Ivey, and I am a third-year Marketing major with a Psychology minor here
at John Carroll. I’m writing to ask that you consider keeping me enrolled in EN 2510-51, as I
understand the course is currently over capacity and one seat must be eliminated.
Throughout my time in the classroom, I’ve made a consistent effort to maintain strong etiquette
and stay on top of my coursework, which has allowed me to sustain a Dean’s List GPA. If I’m
honest about my one weakness, it’s a tendency toward perfectionism. A single grammar error
on a seven-page paper or a small mistake in a statistics equation has always felt, to me,
unacceptable. I know you place real value on understanding that mistakes are part of learning,
and that everyone makes them. That perspective is exactly why I don’t want to lose my seat in
this class.
Business writing is a skill I know I’ll rely on for the rest of my career, and this course is where I
intend to sharpen it; not just in technique, but in learning to treat mistakes as useful feedback
rather than failures. I believe that mindset will make me an engaged, hardworking student in
your classroom, and I’d truly value the opportunity to complete the semester with you.
Thank you for considering my request. I’m happy to discuss this further at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Michael Ivey
