I believe that the argument, "Portrait of the teacher as an artist”, is one that many people
aspiring to be teachers should have in their heart. Being able to see the value that you hold as a
teacher, and view the job as truly impactful, is extremely important. Educators have to be able to
see that their job is an art. It’s something one has to be passionate about to be able to truly impact
students in years to come. Current and aspiring teachers understand their job is just as valuable
as other careers, which helps fuel them to continue teaching in the long run.
Both issues, “The bog of mindless routine” and “But salaries still have a long way to go”,
are harsh truths that budding educators must come to terms with. Understanding that the job can
become very redundant is something that they must learn to grow with, because otherwise there's
a low chance one will want to continue the job. Alongside that, it is well known that teachers
don't get paid well. Teaching is a job that requires long hours, with inadequate pay. Since our
current world revolves around money, it tests many teachers on their love for the job.
Even with these factors in mind, I believe that the first argument I covered is the most
influential in deciding if teaching is your career. I think my desire to teach is around 8.5. There
are still many things that need to be fixed in the realm of education, but I still love the idea of
becoming a teacher. Even with all the negatives, my passion for teaching and educating far
exceeds them. Teaching is a job that I have wanted to have since I was a child, and I am very
invested in pursuing that choice.
