Level D Style Practice Paper — Ages 10–11 (Year 6/7)
Verbal • Quantitative • Non-Verbal • Spatial Reasoning
IMPORTANT: This is an original practice paper written to give children familiarity with the FOUR
REASONING AREAS and QUESTION STYLES used in CAT4-style cognitive ability assessments (Level D). It is
NOT the official GL Assessment CAT4 test, does not contain any real CAT4 items, and is not published or
endorsed by GL Assessment. Use it purely for informal practice and confidence-building.

Battery 3: Non-Verbal Reasoning
Non-verbal reasoning measures how well you can reason using shapes and figures instead of words or numbers
— this reduces the effect of language or number skills on the result.
Subtest 3A — Figure Classification
Look at the three shapes in the boxes on the left — they share something in common. From the five answer
shapes (A–E), choose the ONE that belongs with them for the same reason.

Spatial reasoning measures how well you can imagine and mentally manipulate shapes and objects in space.
Subtest 4A — Figure Rotation
The shape in the box on the left is rotated (turned) to make one of the five answer shapes (A–E). The other four
have been flipped over (mirrored) as well as turned, so they do NOT match. Choose the ONE answer shape that
is a pure rotation of the original.

Scoring guide
Add up all correct answers out of 58 total questions, then compare to the rough band below. This is only an
informal guide, not a standardised score.
44–58 correct — Very strong performance across all four reasoning areas.
30–43 correct — Solid, age-appropriate performance; review the areas with more misses.
Below 30 correct — Use the missed questions to practise that specific reasoning style, then try again in a week
or two.
