Collaborator
Collaboration is integral to problem solving because it allows people to bring their strengths
together. When collaborating, I make sure to incorporate everyone’s ideas and resolve disputes
if they arise. One time I demonstrated collaborative skills was when completing a group project
in science class.
Our task was to create and present on the tundra biome. Before we began the project, I
delineated tasks to both me and my partner. I knew my partner was a talented artist, so I
suggested he create a model of our biome, while I would research the tundra and create a
slideshow.
Through the project, my partner and I were able to learn from each other. I learned the
intricacies of TinkerCad, which my partner used to create a 3D model of the biome, while I
taught him about organizing research and credible sourcing on NoodleTools. Researching
concepts like permafrost and tundra animals, would have been interesting to me even working
alone. However, collaborating on this project made the final product better than it could have
if I had worked on it individually, and both of us learned from each other in the process.
I bring my skills as an effective collaborator to not only group projects but also to activities like
Science Bowl, where collaboration is necessary among team members who represent the
school. At TJ, I am excited to collaborate in exciting programs like IBEST, where students need
to work together to perform a research project and create a research paper.
