UNIT IV: Introduction to Microprocessor 8085
Overview of Microprocessor Components
A microprocessor consists of several key
components that work together to process
data:
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU):
Performs arithmetic operations (addition,
subtraction, multiplication, division) and
logical operations (AND, OR, comparisons) on
binary data stored in registers
UNIT IV: Introduction to Microprocessor 8085
Control Unit (CU): Directs the flow of data and instructions, generating control signals to
synchronize operations across the processor, memory, and I/O devices
Registers: Small, high-speed storage locations that temporarily hold data, instructions, and
addresses for immediate processing.
Buses: Communication pathways connecting microprocessor, memory, and I/O. The data
bus transfers information, the address bus specifies memory or I/O locations, and the control
bus manages timing and direction of data flow.
Memory System: Includes RAM for temporary storage of active programs and ROM for
permanent instructions, providing the microprocessor with data and instructions.
