Time for relaxation and leisure activities +
Exams are one of the most stressful things students must go through. Being tested on your
knowledge is more than nerve wracking – it’s borderline soul crushing, especially if you get a
bad grade. Schools should do their best to help students during this period, and the way I
believe they should is by making a revision timetable and giving the students more time for
themselves.
On the one hand, creating a structured revision timetable prior to exams will help
students assimilate the material better. By making teachers focus on helping students get ready
for the tests, each and every one of them will get prepared better than they could by
themselves. Teachers can dedicate their time to helping individual students and their weak
points. For example, math teachers can help students who struggle with certain formulas
understand them better during these lessons.
On the other hand, giving the students more time to relax will help them deal with the
stress. They could also use the spare time to learn and get prepared better, but even by just
relaxing they can get through the stressful period. For example, giving the students an hour of
free time each day by cancelling the last period can give them enough time to relax and study
supplementarily.
In conclusion, both methods can help students get through exams with varying degrees
of success. I believe, though, that the best way to make sure that students don’t suffer from
stress is by making a revision timetable, since it’s going to help them study better, understand
the material and strengthen their weak points. Making teachers spend time helping students
study will outweigh the benefits of leisure time.
