PSY 406: Physiological Processes presentation rubric
Please tell the class about your research question, key findings, main conclusions, and give a critical analysis of your research findings.
Because your time is limited for your presentation, focus on the most interesting and important aspects of your research that you’d like to
share.
Presentation Length = 10 minutes Begin with a brief background to set the stage. Most of the time should be spend discussing and critically analyzing
the key findings and conclusions. End with a brief discussion of limitations and possible future directions for this line of research.
About videos: if you incorporate a video into your presentation, it should add to what you are teaching, not act as a substitute for teaching. If the video
does more explaining than showing, it is not an effective teaching tool. It should also be brief (likely less than 30 seconds).

Background
information
No discussion of
background information.
Rationale of research project is not
explained, or incomplete.
Described in the proper amount of detail.
(Sufficient information but not too long)
Main research
question and
conclusions
Does not highlight the
primary research question
and conclusions.
There is ambiguity in the way the
research question / conclusion is
explained and described.
Conclusions not fully accurate or
supported by the research findings.
The research question and their
conclusions are explained very clearly.
Conclusions are appropriate based on the
research findings.
Evidence that
supports conclusion
(key findings)
Interpretation of data /
description of experiments
are missing. No integration
of findings (disjointed
summaries of the papers).
There may be a focus on
irrelevant information.
Interpretation of data / description
of experiments may be incomplete.
Explanation does not demonstrate
complete understanding of
material.
The relevant experiments are described
and interpreted well. Demonstrates
complete understanding of material.
Integrates findings across studies rather
than simply summarizing articles
individually.
Critical analysis
Limited or no critical
evaluation.
Includes reasonable critique and
some discussion of limitations or
future research directions.
Provides insightful critique of
methodologies, limitations,
inconsistencies. Discusses implications
and future directions.
Proper use of
presentation tools
PowerPoint does not
include images. Script was
read directly from slides.
Excessive amount of text on
slides. Substantially too
short or too long.
Images did not help clarify text or
were confusing. Script was read
directly from slides. Too much text
on slides. Issues with eye contact,
speed, and/or length.
Meaningful and instructive images. Slides
served as a guide for your presentation.
Appropriate amount of text on slides (not
too much). Good eye contact. Appropriate
