As Eleanor Roosevelt, my character card mentioned how I am not on a specific side
during this issue but rather someone who just wants overall world peace. I included this in my
research and in my speech because I mentioned how nuclear weapons aren't just a military
issue but also a human rights concern that affects all of humanity.
In my speech itself I also supported the idea of an international oversight body to regulate
nuclear weapons, rather than leaving them under strict national control. I argued that no single
country should have unchecked authority over such destructive force. This reflects my real
historical belief that peace can only be achieved through cooperation, transparency, and mutual
trust between nations. Though some of these things were not written down on my paper, I did
make sure to mention something along those lines during my speech.
From this experience, I learned how difficult it is to balance national security with global
responsibility. Even when many participants recognized the dangers of nuclear weapons, there
was still hesitation to give up control or trust in international systems. This reflects the real world
tension between cooperation and competition among nations.
For improvements, I would suggest having all the participants gain knowledge on all the
roles so they can get a better understanding of what everyone's goals are. I would also suggest
having everyone who is in similar groups collaborate before the game starts so they can all
come to an agreement as to what they want to accomplish throughout the span of the days.
My focus was less on improving my own position or that of a specific social class, and
more on advancing the well-being of all people. Eleanor Roosevelt was known for advocating
beyond her own social class, using her influence to promote equality, human rights, and social
justice.
