BSN 2-4
1. Roy is having breathing problem because he was born too early at 31 weeks. His lungs are not fully
developed yet, so it is hard for him to breathe properly. He is also small for his age, so his body is weaker
and has less energy. There was also fetal distress before birth, which means he may not get enough
oxygen inside the womb. His low APGAR score shows he had difficulty adjusting after birth. The
mother’s infection may also affect him and can cause breathing problems.
2. To help Roy, he will need oxygen support. If needed, he can be placed on oxygen for airway or
ventilator to help him breathe. He may also receive surfactant medicine for his lungs. He should stay in
an incubator to keep him warm. His oxygen level, sugar level, and vital signs must be checked closely.
Antibiotics may also be given in case of infection.
3. I will teach the mother to give gentle care and not overstimulate the baby. She can do skin-to-skin
contact to help with bonding and breathing. She should talk softly, sing, and gently touch the baby. I will
also teach her to watch for signs of stress like color change or fast breathing. Regular check-ups are
important to monitor the baby’s growth and development.
