GOALS AND
PLANNING.

SELF-MANAGEMENT AND WHY IT IS
IMPORTANT
• It is the process of influencing yourself to make effective decisions.
• As individuals we We choose what we are and what we become in our personal and professional lives.
• To practice self-management and leadership, we first need to be aware of what we want out of life and what desirable means for attaining
our goals are.
• Organisations or the employer finds it more easier to work with employees that have set their own goals
• Self management is important in training and development because, an individual is developed by continuously learning new
knowledge and skills, undergoing multiple training and learning programmes and growing as an individual or employee.
The importance of values in organisational processes
They are two types of values that employees must have:
Terminal values:
Instrumental values:
Refer to a desirable end or goal which can be
peace, graduating, getting a distinction, etc.
Believes about what behaviors are appropriate in
striving for a desired goal.
PERSONAL GOAL SETTING IN THE
WORKPLACE
It is important for employees to set operational goals that will
ensure that they are successful in the workplace.
Clear objectives and regular evaluations facilitate self-management because they clarify what needs to be done and whether
progress is being made. EXAMPLE:
•
Clear objectives → Students can see exactly what needs to be done.
•
Measurable outcomes → Easy to check if the goal was achieved.
•
Time-bound tasks → Deadlines keep work focused.
•
Alignment with bigger goals → Each small task contributes to organizational success.
Personalize
• Employees will be less committed to achieve goals
that someone else sets for them
Be SMART
• Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable,
realistic and time-bound
Visualize
• Once you can see yourself achieving a goal, you will
be more motivated to stay focused and work hard.
Reward small
wins
• When achieving incremental progress towards a goal,
reward yourself.
Develop a
support group
• Associate with employees who can and will support
you in achieving your goals.
PLANNING FOR
TRAINING
IMPLEMENTATIO
N
Before any training programme is selected, you need
to understand the overall purpose of the training and
why it needs to be carried out.
This will ensure that the organization receives an
adequate return on its training investment.
The size of the organization and its training budget
will also determine the extend to which planning
needs to be done,
THE PLANNING PROCESS
1. IDENTIFY OVERALL GOALS: MISSION STATEMENT OF THE
ORGANISATION.
2. ANALYSE THE ENVIRONMENT: TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AND
PROVIDERS.
3. IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS: CAN TRAINING BE
CONDUCTED INTERNALLY.
4. ANALYSE ORGANISATIONAL RESOURCES: NUMBER OF
EMPLOYEES AND SIZE OF TRAINING BUDGET.
5. IDENTIFY STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES: ARE EMPLOYEES
SKILLED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE OR ARE THERE MAJOR GAPS
PRESENT.
6. IDENTIFY OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES: WHAT TARGETS ARE
REQUIRED FROM DEPARTMENTS AND EMPLOYEES.
7. FORMULATE STRATEGIES: HOW CAN TRAINING ASSIST IN
ATTAINING TARGETS SET.
8. IMPLEMENT RESULTS: CONDUCT/PROVIDE THE TRAINING
NEEDED/SELECTED.
9. EVALUATE RESULTS: HAS PERFORMANCE IMPROVED IN THE
JOB.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL
CHECKLISTS IN TRAINING.
• Checklists provide detail for every step in the training process, thereby
keeping things organized.
• Simple and easy to use and very effective in ensuring you complete all the
tasks/steps needing to be fulfilled in the training process.
• Keep track of the training process, number of employees attending,
absentees from training
REINFORCEMENT
EXERCISES IN
TRAINING
• Reinforcement involves providing strategic content as a training followup,
• Training and Learning reinforcement is a training strategy that engages
learners both before and after their principal learning activity through prework and/or post-work
• Helps learners retain information for longer periods of time, master
learning objectives, and continue applying what they’ve learned to their
daily job duties.
