Introduction
In this exercise the students will be able to understand basics of MATLAB mainly focusing on
variables, scalar and matrix operations, and plotting of signals using built-in MATLAB
functions.
Objectives
1. To implement theory concepts and learn their applications.
2. Learn and implement basic signal processing and array manipulation in MATLAB.
3. Learn development and troubleshooting.
Instructions:
Students are instructed to complete these exercises on their own and submit to the following
drive link. Start the lab report with a summary of previous lab comprising of 5-6 lines. The
second heading should be Abstract describing what is done in this current lab report. From
third onwards, exercises. Paste the code and output snapshots both for each exercise with
proper heading and formatting. Copied work/tasks will result in ZERO for the whole lab
report.
Task:
Practice Problem 1:
Create a 5×5 symmetric matrix m with integer values.
(a) Find the transpose of m
(b) Verify symmetry.
(c) Display whether the matrix is symmetric
Practice Problem 2:
Create a 3×5 random integer matrix (0–100) using rand and fix.
(a) Replace all values of the 2nd row with 7
(b) Find the maximum value of the matrix
(c) Find the sum of each row

Practice Problem 3:
Define
1 − 15𝑗 3
1 + 3𝑗 5 + 3𝑗
d=[
] and e = [
]
7
9𝑗
0
1 − 8𝑗
and calculate
(a) c=d+e
(b) c=d-e
(c) c=d*e
(d) c=d/e
Note: multiplication and division should be done element by element.
Practice Problem 4:
Plot y = 3 * exp(3 * pi * t), t = 0:0.001:150
Choose t from (0---150) with increment of 0.001
(a) Add title, labels, grid
(b) Display maximum value
Practice Problem 5:
Define a vector a = [1 2 3 4 5] and then using a “for” loop create another vector
‘b’ having the following values corresponding to ‘a’
Practice Problem 6:
Without using a “for” loop and using some alternative method define vector
a = [1 2 3 4 5] and create b1 = [11 22 33 44 55]
Practice Problem 7:
Indicate the error in the following. Tell the line # which contains the error and
what is the error.
1.......v=0:2:10
2.......for c=1:length(v)
3........ v(c-1)=v(c)+5;
4........end
5........v

Practice Problem 8:
We have vector
x = your choice and we want to multiply all the
elements of the vector ‘x’ e.g. (ax b x c … … … … . x ) and store the result in temp.
Practice Problem 9:
Refer to “example 6”. Change the code so that it creates vector ‘b’ having values
Practice Problem 10:
Write the MATLAB code with input n, it should generate the following sequence
(n=30).
[-1 -2j 3 4j -5 -6j 7 8j… … up to nth element]
