• Analyze the social, political, and economic changes of
the Gilded Age by engaging in a historical role-playing
activity.
• Evaluate the perspectives of industrialists, labor
leaders, reformers, and everyday citizens on issues
such as monopolies, labor conditions, immigration,
and political corruption.
• Compare differing viewpoints and assess the impact
of industrialization on American society.
• Read and summarize a historical character's
viewpoint.
• Discuss historical perspectives in role-play
interactions.
• Write down character viewpoints and respond to
analysis questions about the time period.
Mixer House Rules
1.You cannot meet someone assigned the same role. You may
not meet yourself. (if this applies)
2.Engage with each other one on one, not in large groups.
3.It’s not a race; the point is to learn about different perspectives
during this time period so spend time listening to one another;
don’t just scribble down answers to the questions.
4.Do not show your role to anyone; this is a conversation-based
activity.
5.Do not speak with accents in an effort to try more authentically
to represent their individual. (These can invite stereotyping.)
