DATE OF PRESENTATION: 08-11-2025
AIM OF THIS FIELD VISIT
Gurudwara Patna Sahib,
being the birthplace of Guru
Gobind Singh Ji, is a sacred
and culturally rich location
that attracts people from all
over the world. Under the
theme “Vocal for Local,” this
study explores how the
Gurudwara balances local
traditions and livelihoods
with global influences like
tourism, technology, and
modernization.
2
WHAT IS “ VOCAL FOR LOCAL” ?
Globalization means the world is becoming more connected — through
travel, trade, technology, and ideas.
This leads to social change, where people’s lifestyles, choices, and cultures
start to shift.
Sometimes, this can cause local traditions and small businesses to be
forgotten or replaced by global brands.
“Vocal for local” helps balance this by encouraging us to:
Support local shops and workers
Preserve local culture, food, art and language
Think global but act local.
In our visit to Patna Sahib, we saw how local shops, food, and traditions are
still important — even though people from all over the globe visit the place.
So, Vocal for Local here means valuing and protecting the local spirit while
engaging with the world.

INFLUENCE OF GLOBALISATION ON
GURUDWARA
Impact of Technology
Social media and online platforms (you Tube), have helped people around the
world to learn about Patna Sahib Gurudwara
Live streaming of Kirtans on you Tube and social media connects devotees who
cannot travel.
Increased online visibility has led to growth in the number of visitors overtime.
Langar(free community meal) serves thousands daily-symbol of equality and global
Sikh identity.
Transportation and Accessibility
Earlier, people had to travel for long hours and sometimes felt sick during the
journey.
Due to better roads and transport facilities, visiting the Gurudwara has become
easier.
Improved transport leads to more frequent and comfortable visits, even from
outside Bihar and worldwide.
5
Cultural and Religious Reach
Global live telecasts & social media helped
Patna Sahib gain worldwide followers.
Many foreigners visit after watching online and
follow Sikh customs respectfully (head covering,
no shoes, traditional attire).
Even with global visitors, the Gurudwara’s
culture and traditions remain unchanged and
strongly preserved.
The Gurudwara maintains respect for its sacred
space with rules like no selfies inside, preserving
its spiritual atmosphere.

and security arrangements.

food to a wide range of customers.
They use Instagram pages and reels to advertise their food,
ambience, and special offers.
Restaurants decorate and design their interiors to attract the
younger generation.
Handloom & Cultural Shops

face competition from cheap, machine-made products.
Tourists show strong interest in buying handmade items for cultural
and souvenir value.
Some shops now use online platforms or export channels to reach
global buyers.

Reflections
Patna Sahib shows how globalization can support culture instead of
replacing it.
Technology has connected the Gurudwara with people worldwide,
but traditions like langar, dress code, and prayers stay rooted.
Local shops have adapted with digital tools while still selling culturally
significant products.
Suggestions
Train local shopkeepers and youth in digital tools, tourism apps, and
online sales platforms.
Create multilingual boards and local language guide counters to
help foreign tourists engage respectfully and easily.
Encourage eco-friendly tech like solar panels, digital crowd control,
and smart waste systems.
Promote cultural products through e-commerce to help artisans thrive
globally.
Conclusion
Globalization at Patna Sahib is not just about change — it's about
balance.
With the right use of technology, culture, community, and
development can grow side by side.
A “Vocal for Local + Digital for All” approach can make Patna
Sahib a model for heritage-led globalization.
