INTRODUCTION
The fifth form class of 2023-2024 was given an SBA assignment on Football and I was
chosen to be the First Aid Officer/ Competition Manager. There are many rules in Football,
and below are some rules we created for our competition.
The rules of this competition are simple:
7 players a side
7 minutes a half
6 teams
No tackling
No goalkeeping
Prior to the commencement of the tournament, each team must register their full team.
Additionally, each team must select a color in an effort to have all teams uniformed.
The points scheme for this event is listed below:
Win= 3 points
Draw= 1 point
Lose= 0 point

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In the 19th century, modern-day soccer was invented in England. It was mainly played by
private school teams and soccer clubs. Soccer originated from a 9th-century medieval period
game called ‘folk football’ played in England which involved teams of players competing to
get a pig’s bladder from one landmark to another. These teams would be members of the
town competing to get the pig’s bladder to their opponent’s goal which was usually on the
other side of town. At this point, the game was brutal with no rules other than don’t murder.
The violent folk football game was banned throughout periods of England’s history until the
rules and field constraints were put into place which brought rise to modern-day soccer.
Before soccer clubs emerged and officially drafted soccer rules, there was very little
teamwork among the players. The game would consist of one player making their way down
the field while the other players followed the ball in hopes of picking up a loose ball. Once
players started passing the ball, the game of football became more strategic. Plays could then
be thought up by coaches and teams could practice their plan of attack during training before
a big match. As soccer clubs began forming, the rules started to change. Certain teams would
play under a set of rules and modern day soccer started to take shape. In the 1860’s the
Football Association (FA) was formed and they brought together the different rules used
throughout England by various clubs and schools to create one set of soccer regulations.
More and more soccer clubs and leagues in England joined the FA and followed the
regulation game-play rules. Soccer’s popularity grew and the clubs started to charge for
attendance to watch the matches in the 1870’s. Soccer players wanted to be paid as spectators
and revenue grew and soccer then became a profession. By 1900, the rest of Europe had
taken interest in the favorite sport of England and leagues began popping up all over the
world. The International Federation of Association Football was founded in 1904 Paris.

MY ROLE
A first aid officer is responsible for assessing and advising on the suitability of the venue for
safe participation. They are also responsible for assessing and advising on the safety,
cleanliness, and hygiene of the change rooms, maintaining team protective equipment, and
managing illness or injury. I chose this role because of my lifelong dream to be a medical
doctor. I also chose this role because I love to help people and in primary school, I was
responsible for anyone who got cut or bruised. As such, I feel that I have adequate experience
in that field.

PLANNING AND
IMPLEMENTING
In preparation for the football tournament, I educated myself on my role as a First Aid
Officer. I also ensured that I had all of the equipment and utensils needed for First Aid.
Leading to the commencement of each game, I made sure that the first aid kit along with
water, and cups were transported to the sideline, and that the kit was properly maintained.
After each game, I made sure to return everything to the office where they would be safe and
not damaged.

ACTIVITY REPORT
The football tournament commenced on October 12th 2023 at 12:45pm at the school grounds.
The teams and their colours are One Cup (yellow), Fully (green), Man City (red), Ballers
(blue), St. Pauls (black) and Bagdad FC (white). In preparation for the game, the equipment
officers as well as the other first aid officers and myself ensured that the field was set and
ready for play. The first aid station was on the sideline along with the registration table. Our
first game was between One Cup and Fully and then our second game on that same day,
which can be found in the fixture table in the appendix. During each match, the first aid
officers provided cups of water for the players during half-time as well as after the game. As
the tournament progressed, we continued to ensure that the field was always ready for play
and that we had all the equipment needed in the case of an accident or incident. After Round
3, the equipment officers resprayed the field as well as after Round 5, in preparation for the
Finals. We also ensured that all of the equipment were well taken care of and put in a safe
space after each game. On October 16th during the Fully versus Bagdad match up, one of
Fully’s players, Tecaldo Thomas, sustained an injury to the foot and was helped by a fellow
first aid officer after the game. During the game of Fully vs Bagdad FC, Shamar Matthew; a
player from Bagdad FC, retained a yellow card for foul language and foul play. The
tournament went by and was very competitive. However, it ended with Bagdad FC on top of
the table with 11 points and Fully in second place with 7 points accompanying them through
to the finals. The finals was commentated and ended up a 1-1 draw. However, Fully came out
victorious with a 2-1 penalty lead. Fully was rewarded on their win and also had a victory
celebration with other students after the game. The scores for each game can be found in
Table 1 in the Appendix.
