Design Explana on: Trigger-Based Slider Mechanism
1. Working of the Mechanism
This mechanism is designed to convert a manual rota onal input into a controlled linear output.
Input Stage: The user pulls the handle of the Trigger Lever, which pivots around a fixed axis
created by the Axle Pin.
Transmission Stage: As the lever rotates, its lower curved profile makes contact with the rear
face of the Slider.
Output Stage: The rota onal force is transferred as a linear push, driving the Slider and the
a ached Slider Rod forward through the housing.
2. Technical Specifica ons
Below are the key dimensions used in the assembly to ensure proper fit and func on:
Component
Key Dimension
Purpose
Main Housing Internal Slot Width
Provides a guided path for the slider
Slider Rod
Length & Diameter
Determined by the required stroke length
Axle Pin
Housing Width + 2mm Secures the lever while allowing rota on
Spring
Free Length
Ensures the slider returns to the home posi on
3. Design Choices
Ergonomic Lever: The lever features an elongated handle for be er mechanical advantage,
making it easier to compress the spring.
Curved Contact Face: The lever’s contact point is curved to ensure a consistent tangent
rela onship with the slider, reducing fric on and ensuring a smooth stroke.
Integrated Rail System: The housing serves as both a structural frame and a guide rail,
ensuring the slider moves linearly without l ng.
4. Return Mechanism
The mechanism u lizes a Helical Compression Spring for automa c rese ng.
As the slider moves forward, it compresses the spring against the internal wall of the
housing.
When the trigger is released, the spring pushes the slider back to its original posi on.
This return force subsequently pushes the lever back to its star ng state.
5. Manufacturing Approach
Prototyping: Parts are op mized for 3D Prin ng (FDM) using PLA for func onal tes ng.
Mass Produc on: The design is compa ble with Injec on Molding, featuring standard dra
angles and uniform wall thicknesses.
Assembly: The axle pin and spring are off-the-shelf components to reduce custom machining
costs.
