Definition of Terms
The following terms are defined conceptually to provide more transparent
and understandable concepts related to the study.
Compliance Training
According to McGarry (2025), compliance training is employee training
mandated by legislation, regulation or policy. It educates your employees on the
laws or regulations applicable to their job function or industry. These laws are
predominantly in place to maintain the safety of the workplace and the dignity of
the employee. These training initiatives are mandatory, so logically the focus is on
recording completion. Why is a smooth compliance training process important?
Good corporate compliance programs help to prevent poor conduct and ensure
proper governance in your organization. This helps to minimize risk, maintain
your reputation and provides a better environment for your employees to work in
– benefiting productivity in the long run.
Remote Work
Remote work described as situations where the work is fully or partly carried
out on an alternative worksite other than the default place of work. Remote work
can be performed in a variety of possible locations, all of which can be viewed as
an alternative to the location where the work could typically be expected to be
carried out, taking into account the profession and the status in employment (International Labour Organization, 2020).
Expenses
McKeen et.al (2023) defined expense as a type of expenditure that flows
through the income statement and is deducted from revenue to arrive at net income. Due to the accrual principle in accounting, expenses are recognized when
they are incurred, not necessarily when they are paid for.
Positioning
According to Wolf, J. (2024), positioning refers to the unique place a company or brand occupies in the minds of its target audience. It’s about creating a
perception that sets your business apart from competitors, helping customers see
the value you bring to the table. Effective positioning builds trust, strengthens
recognition, and ultimately influences purchasing decisions.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Equal Employment Opportunity is the concept of equal opportunity in an
organization to achieve or maintain fair employment. The core EEO definition (or
equal opportunity for employment) is that all employees should be fairly treated
when regarded in different decisions on employment, such as hiring, promotion,
termination, compensation, etc. (Peoplehum, 2024).
