Hermes Astrology
Astro Numerology
Astro-Numerology—also known as Numerological
Astrology—is the profound synthesis of two of humanity's oldest
symbolic systems: Astrology, the language of celestial bodies,
and Numerology, the language of archetypal numbers. This
hybrid discipline operates on the hermetic principle that "All is
number" (Pythagoras) and "As above, so below." It posits that
the planets and numbers are not separate codes, but interlocking
dialects of the same cosmic vocabulary. Where astrology
describes the quality and archetype of an influence, numerology
reveals its rhythmic timing, structural essence, and vibrational
core. Together, they create a multidimensional map of character
and destiny.
This is not a modern New Age invention, but has roots in
Chaldean, Pythagorean, and Kabbalistic traditions, where
numbers were seen as the building blocks of cosmic law, and
planets were their visible, moving manifestations in the heavens.
The Foundational Bridge: Planetary Numbers
The heart of the system is the assignment of numerical values to
the planets. While there are variations, the most widely used
scheme (popularized by Cheiro and others) is:
● Sun: 1 – Leadership, individuality, vital force.
● Moon: 2 – Receptivity, emotion, partnership.
● Jupiter: 3 – Expansion, joy, creativity, expression.
● Uranus/Rahu (North Node): 4 – Innovation, disruption,
structure, rebellion.
● Mercury: 5 – Communication, intellect, adaptability.
● Venus: 6 – Harmony, love, beauty, responsibility.
● Neptune/Ketu (South Node): 7 – Spirituality, mystery,
illusion, introspection.
● Saturn: 8 – Mastery, discipline, karma, material power.
● Mars: 9 – Energy, action, courage, completion.
● Pluto: Often associated with the master numbers 22 or 0,
representing transformation and the void.
This is the Rosetta Stone. It allows one to translate any
astrological configuration into a numerological signature, and
vice-versa. A person with a strong Number 1 vibration will have
strong solar qualities; a Number 8 life path will face Saturnine
lessons of power and limitation.
Core Techniques: The Synthesis in Practice
1. The Life Path Number & The Ruling Planet
Your Life Path Number (derived from your full birth date and
reduced to a single digit 1-9, or master number 11, 22, 33) is
considered your primary numerological signature, akin to your
Sun sign. In astro-numerology, this number reveals your "Ruling
Planet."
● Life Path 1 is ruled by the Sun.
● Life Path 2 is ruled by the Moon.
2
● Life Path 3 is ruled by Jupiter.
...and so on.
Your life's core lessons and opportunities are now framed by both
the numerological meaning of your Life Path and the astrological
archetype of its ruling planet. A Life Path 8 (Saturn-ruled)
individual doesn't just learn about material power; they navigate
the specific karmic, disciplinary, and structural lessons of Saturn in
their chart.
2. Planetary Cycles & Personal Years
This is where the synthesis becomes a powerful predictive tool.
Numerology's 9-Year Epicycle (where you cycle through personal
years 1 to 9) is superimposed onto the astrological transits.
● Your Personal Year Number sets the thematic tone (e.g., a
Personal Year 1 is for new beginnings, ruled by the Sun; a
Personal Year 9 is for endings/completion, ruled by Mars).
● You then examine the transits of that year's ruling planet
to your natal chart. In a Personal Year 4 (Uranus-ruled), you
would pay special attention to Uranus transits, expecting
themes of sudden change, liberation, or disruption in the
house Uranus is activating.
3. Name Number & The Ascendant/Midheaven
Your Destiny/Expression Number (from your full birth name) is
correlated with your Midheaven (MC) or 10th House—your public
image and career. Your Soul Urge/Heart's Desire Number (from
the vowels in your name) is linked to your Moon sign or 4th
House (IC)—your inner emotional needs and private self. This
creates a fascinating dialogue: Does the ambition of your Destiny
Number 8 (Saturn) conflict with the emotional needs of your Soul
Urge Number 2 (Moon)? This might mirror a tense Saturn-Moon
aspect in your birth chart.
4. Astrological Houses as Numerical Fields
Each astrological house (1st through 12th) can be assigned a
numerological vibration by reducing its number (e.g., 4th House =
4; 11th House = 1+1=2). The 4th House (home, roots) thus
resonates with the stabilizing, structural energy of Number 4
(Uranus/Rahu). A planet in the 4th is therefore colored by that
numerological vibration.

5. Aspect Analysis through Number
The degrees of a planetary aspect can be interpreted
numerologically. A square (90°) reduces to 9 (9+0), linking it to
Mars (energy, conflict). A trine (120°) reduces to 3 (1+2+0), linking
it to Jupiter (luck, expansion). This adds a layer of meaning: a
square isn't just tension; it's Mars-energy tension demanding
action for completion (9). A sextile (60°=6) is Venus-energy
harmony offering opportunity through relationship and beauty.
The Chaldean System: The Ancient Root
A more esoteric branch uses the Chaldean numerology system,
which uses a different, non-sequential letter-number assignment
(e.g., A=1, B=2, C=3, but D=4, E=5, etc., with unique vibrations for
1-8, and 9 as a sacred number). In this system, the numbers 1
through 8 are directly linked to the classical planets in Chaldean
order (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon). This
creates an even more direct, ancient correspondence used for
planetary talismans, electional timing, and magical squares.
Practical Applications: A Unified Forecast
An astro-numerologist crafting a forecast would weave together:
1. Life Path/Ruling Planet Theme: "This is a Personal Year 7
(Neptune/Ketu ruled) for you, a year for spiritual retreat and
dissolving illusions."
2. Transit Correlation: "This is emphasized because
transiting Neptune is squaring your natal Sun, fogging your
sense of identity."
3. Name Vibration Check: "Your Expression Number 5
(Mercury) means you'll want to communicate through this
confusion, but Neptune's influence may make words elusive.
Focus on journaling (Mercury) as a spiritual practice
(Neptune)."
4. Cyclic Timing: "The climax of this phase will be in month 11
(1+1=2, Moon), when your emotions bring clarity."

Philosophical Synthesis: Vibration as the Common
Denominator
At its highest level, astro-numerology suggests that planets and
numbers are two expressions of the same vibrational
frequency. The Sun is the vibration of "1"—the primal, conscious
spark. Saturn is the vibration of "8"—the slow, structuring
resonance of time and karma.
This makes it a uniquely holistic system. It bridges the gap
between the spatial, geometric model of astrology (planets in
signs and houses) and the sequential, vibrational model of
numerology (cyclical personal years and core numbers). It
provides two sets of coordinates to locate the individual in the
cosmos: one in space (the birth chart), and one in resonant time
(the numerological cycles).
A Tool for Conscious Evolution
Ultimately, astro-numerology is a tool for synchronicity
awareness. By understanding the numerical vibration of a
planetary period, one can consciously align with its energy.
Knowing you're in a Personal Year 4 (Uranus) allows you to
welcome change rather than fear it. Seeing a transit of Jupiter (3)
to your natal Venus (6) during a Personal Month 9 (Mars) might
indicate a fortunate (3) relationship (6) opportunity that requires
you to take bold action (9) to seize it.
It teaches that our lives are scored by a cosmic symphony,
where the planets provide the melodies and the numbers provide
the rhythm. To master both is to learn not only the tune of your
destiny but also its divine, mathematical tempo.
