In the article What are genome editing and CRISPR-Cas9? The definition of
gene editing as well the process is explained. Gene editing is the process of
changing a organism DNA. It is made possible by repurposing the immune
defense system to change certain sequence of a cells DNA.
The way gene editing is described as a very experimental process and is
mentioned to possibly ethical immoral in the article. The article also
mentions that although there are other gene editing approaches the one
CRISPR – Cas9 is the most well known at the moment implying that its
possible that something even more advanced exist .
I believe that CRISPR – Cas9 is simply the latest approach that has been
released to the public and there are very many more sophisticated
approaches that have not been shared to the public. It is possible that certain
companies are trying to monetize gene editing as much as possible before
they release something that could cure many different diseases.

The genome editing revolution give a clear overview on the past and present
of gene editing. It describes how gene editing started as a concept and has
evolved over time until they started to hit ethical roadblocks with prevents
certain enhancements. It also briefly mention the future and how it is highly
likely for things such as sickle cell disease and cancer to be curable once gene
editing is advanced enough.
While gene editing has evolved over time the concept that started it hasn’t
changed much. The starting concept was to copy and paste part of a DNA
strand into a cells DNA. In present the general concept is still the same even
though we have much more research. The biggest changes the gene editing
has went through are how to get to the DNA and how to insert the new DNA
into the cell.
Many experiments on crops have been completed but none of the modified
crops are available on the market yet. There have also been experiments on
human blood in which they try to fix diseases such as sickle cell disease.
There was also a trial where a patient with T-cell leukemia was cured of
cancer by the use of base editing on donated T cells.

The article explains how the first “CRISPR” babies were created by
implanting genetically altered embryos into a woman. It explains how many
people were horrified by this experiment and soon after any kind of human
testing was banned. It also mentions the using of the creation of new

technology and the creation of new laws regarding these brand new
technologies.
The creation of these babies helped to raise concerns about the development
of gene editing and the impact it could have. It took nearly 2 years later for
proper laws to regulate what can and cannot be done with biotechnology. But
most parts of the news laws introduced are very broad For example, the Law
on Scientific and Technological Progress prohibits scientific and
technological research, development and application activities that endanger
national security, harm social and public interests, or violate scientific
integrity and ethics.
These laws are what provide the principals for the people working of
developing new biotechnology. Without these principles what would happen
to these new biotechnology? They would probably go off the rails, making
monstrosity and human Guinea pigs would be much very common.
