Self Critique
Overall I believe my intro was pretty captivating (in text). However, in truly executing it,
via speech I did awful. This was mostly just due to initial anxious feelings. However once you
begin speaking about the topic you sort of enter a peaceful state & find it easier to concentrate.
I’d say possibly the biggest flaw of the presentation would have been the blocks of text.
A better approach would have been to keep things concise. For future presentations I would
instead use bullet points rather than chunks of text. Having excessive text can divert attention
from the audience. They end up reading more than they listen. Another thing i could have done
was to use note cards. That allows the irrelevant information to be with me rather than with the
entire audience.
Another flaw was not having a conclusion. The lack of the conclusion made the
presentation feel abruptly cut. A better solution would have been to include a conclusion. Doing
so would have thrown hints that the end of the presentation was near.
I failed to meet the requirement of including oral citations. This was something I didn't
know I had to do. And I also went under the time limit. Two of these, although they do not really
determine the success of being able to communicate effectively, were still a part of the
requirement. It’s important to be able to fulfill requirements while still maintaining the
effectiveness of the communication.
Eye contact was something I also feel that I did not perform well on. I feel that perhaps I
spent a bit too much time reading the text on the slide. Spending more time looking at the
audience would have created a better connection w/ the audience.
Overall I feel that I did somewhat okay on informing the audience on topics regarding the
brain. While I may not have sounded as enthusiastic (Like you said), I felt pretty enthusiastic
about it. Elongating the time of the speech would have been better. As well as including the use
of note cards.
