Type: Short Story
Behind our old village home stood a giant banyan tree. Grandfather used to tell stories under it.
Evenings would fall, fireflies glowed in the grass, and Grandfather’s voice wove tales of kings,
fairies, and giants. I was very young then. It felt like those magical kingdoms truly existed
somewhere.
But Grandfather left us many years ago. The banyan tree was cut down to make way for a new
road. Now, when I visit, I see only an empty field under a wide open sky. Still, sometimes on quiet
evenings, I close my eyes and hear his voice—faint but clear—telling those same old stories. And
I realize, the kingdom wasn’t in the tales or under the tree; it was in the time we shared, a time I
can still revisit whenever I remember.
