1. What is Flowchart, Algorithm, and Pseudocode
A flowchart is a visual representation of an algorithm in order to understand the code. It consists
of step-by-step processes and symbols to express an algorithm. Such symbols include terminal
symbol, initialization box, processing box, input/output box, and more which are connected
through arrows. An algorithm on the other hand is a set of detailed rules to solve a task. It is a
part of a program in which each algorithm contains different uses. Lastly, a pseudocode is an
informal language used to express/develop an algorithm. It uses simple English suited for human
understanding.
2. Briefly discuss the history and meaning of it.
The first generation of programming languages, also known as machine languages, is machine
dependent and is written in binary code. It can perform certain operations such as addition and
subtraction. This was followed by the second generation also known as assembler languages.
Unlike in the first generation wherein binary codes were used, second generation languages used
symbolic operation codes which made programming easier. Next is the third generation language
which uses simple english with mathematical notation. Common examples of programming
languages under the third generation are: C, C++, FORTRAN, and COBOL. The third generation
was then followed by fourth generation languages (4gl), also known as “non-procedural
language”. The fourth generation is easier to understand compared to the previous generations.
Fourth generation language is also used for databases. The last and latest version of
programming language is the fifth generation languages (5gl) in which programmers can express
programs in a more human manner.
3. Write a short essay about what you have learned for the said topic.
Throughout this lesson I was able to learn the basic key terms under programming such as
algorithm, flowchart, and more as well as their respective functions. Aside from that, I also
learned the history of programming that explains the evolution of programming up to this day.
Programming itself can be quite hard to understand especially if you are not yet familiar with the
basics of programming but with the aid of this lesson I was able to have a quick overview of
what I am about to learn.
