Unsung Symphony
Jacob Ong
I wish we could grow trees —
wherever we wanted
The way we impart stories
that cultivate the minds
of those who listen intently
Maybe we can share
a little bit of symphony?
To hear the quiet tales,
the never-ending possibilities —
a dream turned into reality
Defying one’s own fate
Is a tune you’ll rarely hear
A song left unsung by many —
a taboo in this society
a feat erased in history
Yet the way you touch
and play each key
tells us the whole story
This time, it is possible.
This time, you can.
Knowing me
Why do a stranger’s words
bring comfort to my soul?
Why do they appear
every time I feel troubled?
It’s a kind of shame
I can’t repay their kindness
Even after hours of talking
I can't recall their name
I still remember their faces
How they utter each phrase
The hint of excruciating pain
That they carry every day
Maybe one day
I’ll become one of them,
A stranger to themselves —
Is a stranger I don’t want to be
