English Comp Final Draft
As the beginning of the second semester came closer and closer, the thought of having to
take English Composition at 8 am was not pleasing to know. With English always being my
weakest subject and one I have not always enjoyed doing work for, I was not looking forward to
this class. Since then, my self-knowledge has grown a lot. Now, I am able to make clear and
understand what I'm writing about and how I'm going to write about it—the difference in tone
and delivery. Using transitions and seeing that I am capable of finding and relating my found
sources to help explain the point of my essay.
Finding out about resources such as EBSCO, JSTOR, and other databases, and being able
to utilize these, I was able to gain more knowledge from outside sources that I could not find in
just any other place, such as Google, which I used before. My knowledge of the availability of
other resources has very much grown. Using even movies, which I had never considered before,
was an interesting experience, and I might try it in the future. I re-learned proper punctuation and
just punctuation I wasn't sure of before. The peer reviews also played a role in improving my
thinking and analysis. We were given things to look for specifically in an essay. We wrote our
feedback on how the writer executed those things. I was comfortable with giving honest
feedback and would gladly take any critiques against my writing, because I know it's for the
better of my writing.

I'd say that I grew a lot in explaining myself in depth, making sure I don't use lots of filler
sentences, and making sure to bring out the points that stood out to me the most or what I think
would stand out the most to readers in my writing. Since starting this course, I needed help on
transitioning, I only knew very plain and simply kind of transitions that mainly just got me fine
throughout high school; but wouldn't explain to the reader why they are reading the stuff they are
reading and with what I would personally agree, didn't get the readers intentions at all. There was
no buildup or reasoning for the information I was about to get into, but rather it would go straight
to the facts of what I researched. Dr. Mirarchi really helped me a lot with fixing this aspect of my
writing. He said to, in a way, to explain to the reader why this information is more important than
the information I put in later; to explain or show why I am putting this information in the order
it's in (Mirarchi). This really stood out to me and allowed me to start thinking deeper about my
writing. "How is this information more important than this one (a later paragraph)? The way I
deliver it and explain will also have to match the tone I want, without making it seem like I'm too
biased?" (Ascarrunz)
Once thinking if amazing vocabulary sounding words and the tone, I want my
transitions to be in, I applied the transitions, and with many different altercations and ways I've
tried, I settled with the ones I felt most happy with, this mainly applied with my research essay
titled, AI in Healthcare: Is AI Displacing Healthcare Workers? From looking at my writing in this
paper, compared to my writing and drafts from the beginning and my essay on Faith and Science,
I could see a substantial amount of improvement, which I would say I am most proud of
achieving in this class.
Considering how much I was dreading this class before it even started, I see how much
I've truly grown and improved as a writer. Now, writing 500 words is an easy task, whereas in
Ascarrunz
the beginning it seemed like such an endeavor. I am writing this essay, which has already
surpassed that amount, and would say that this didn't even feel as hard as it first did. Overall, I
am grateful for having to take ENGL-1010 and proud of the improvement made, and next time
will not be as hesitant to have a similar class, as it will only allow me to grow even more.
