GREEN DESIGN CHALLENGE: PITCH GUIDE
Science, Technology, and Society (STS)
1. Proposal of the Activity
2. Overview of the Activity
The Green Design Challenge asks you to propose an innovative, eco-friendly technological
solution that addresses a real environmental problem in your community or the country.
You will create a sustainable design, analyze its science and technology components, and
deliver a pitch presentation highlighting its societal benefits.
Your pitch should demonstrate:
Understanding of STS concepts
Creativity and innovation
Feasibility and sustainability
Social and environmental impact
1. Title of the Innovation
Provide a concise, creative project title that reflects the environmental problem and your
proposed green solution.
2. The Problem (Environmental Issue)
Clearly explain the specific environmental challenge your project addresses.
Guide questions:
What is the problem?
Why is it urgent or relevant?
Who is affected?
What scientific/STS concepts relate to this issue?
3. The Root Cause
Use simple diagrams:
Fishbone diagram / 5 Whys / Cause-Effect Map
4. Proposed Green Solution
Describe your innovative design or idea.
Discuss the following:
What is your proposed solution?
What makes it “green” or environmentally sustainable?
How does it work?
What materials or technology will be used
4. Scientific & Technological Basis
Show the science behind your idea.
Include:
Scientific principles
Technologies involved
STS concepts that support your solution
Any existing studies or models that inspired your design
5. Environmental & Social Impact
Explain the benefits of your project.
How does it reduce harm to the environment?
How does it improve the quality of life of the community?
What SDGs does it directly support?
6. Feasibility & Implementation
Discuss how the project can realistically be done.
Cost and materials
Tools or equipment needed
Steps to create the prototype
Possible challenges and solutions
7. Innovation & Uniqueness
Highlight what makes your project stand out.
Is it new?
What makes it better or more effective than existing solutions?
What creative element did your group add?
8. Prototype / Concept Sketch
Include:
A labeled sketch
Fishbone diagram
Can be hand-drawn or digital
(If available, insert photos of initial drafts or 3D models)
9. Sustainability Assessment
Environmental – renewable materials, low carbon
Social – benefits to the community
Economic – cost, livelihood opportunities
Explain:
How your design promotes sustainability
How it can be maintained or improved over time
Potential scaling for community or industry use
10. Impact Projection
Include:
Environmental benefits
How many users can be helped
Cost savings
Community empowerment
11. Prototype / Model Demo
Photos or video
Materials and tools used
3D model, animation, or diagram
12. Limitations & Risks
Mention at least:
Technical limitations
Materials cost
Scalability issues
13. Future Improvements
Add-ons
Smarter features
More sustainable upgrades
14. Closing Statement
Why your project matters
Call to action
15. References
In APA format
Limit your references to at least 7 – 10. In alphabetical order.
16. Appendices: In a 1 whole sheet of paper
Documentation/s (with proper labelling)
Letters (if you have asked permission from the community)
Pictures of the concept of working on your prototype
Others
Note:
Submission of the manual/clear book is scheduled for December 9, 2025.
