The name of the event was The Sprott Professional Graduate Programs Open House, on
February 10th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
2. Describe the event you attended. What was the purpose of the event?
The purpose of this event is to have networking opportunities by meeting other students and
faculty members, while also being informed about employers for when we reach a professional
job in our respective fields. We were also informed on how we can have a part time study option
to fast track to our CPA and be able to advance our careers. Without leaving our job. There were
program information sessions which spoke about our options for internships, and full-time
programs that accommodate work schedules.
3. Based on what you learned at the session, how do you see the information provided
aligning with your long-term career aspirations?
I can see that the information I learned today will be helpful in terms of where to look and what
to expect when searching for a professional career. Not only that, but I got to practice the skill of
meeting new people and expanding my networking web. The information told to me today
further expands my knowledge of my options, leaving me in a good position for my future.
4. Were there any surprising insights or information that challenged your previous
perceptions about the business world? Did you learn something new about a specific
industry or career path?
I learned that in the career path of business, networking and getting to know people and being
social is very important. The career path in general is reliant on connections and that's something
i personally need to work on, especially in this career. I knew the business career path had to do
with being a team player, and working with other people, but I didn't consider the connections
you'd have to make with people who might not necessarily work in the same firm or business as
me.
5. What actions will you take as a result of attending this information session? How will
you follow up and stay engaged with the company/industry/professional who presented?
After this information session i'm going to try to expand my networking web even more and
practice being more social with others. I'll also do more research on what a CPA is and consider
what I can do to be able to achieve that in my career. To follow up with the person who
presented today, I will look at their information on the Carleton website and try to find them
through social media like LinkedIn. I will also look at the Carlton website and Carlton emails in
general, for anything that relates to my program that I find may benefit me in the future.
