Electric Field
The region of space where an electric charge experiences a force due to other
charges is called an electric field.
The direction of electric field at a point is the direction of the force on a positive
charge at that point.
If the electric force felt by a charge is the same everywhere in a region, the field is
uniform and vice-versa.
Electric Fields and direction
The electric field is a vector quantity.
The direction of electric field is away from the sphere, if it is
positive.
The direction of the electric field is towards the sphere, if it is
negative.
A uniform electric field is produced between two oppositely
charged parallel metal plates
Electric Fields and direction
Properties of electric field lines of forces:
The electric lines of force start from positive charge and terminate at
negative charge denoted by arrow marks.
Lines of force never intersect or cross each other.
No two lines start and end at the same point.
The number of lines drawn leaving or approaching the charge is
proportional to the magnitude of the charge.
Closer the charge more the strength of the electric field is.

Charge and Electric field
We have already seen that electrons are the charged particles that are
transferred from one object to another by charging by friction.
We also know that charge is measured in coulombs ( C ).
The magnitude of electron charge =
- 1.6 x 10 -19 C
A proton has exactly same charge as electrons but positive, so proton
charge is + 1.6 x 10 -19 C
When an electric charge is placed near to another electric charge it experiences
a force
